Anybody heard of routes up this beast? Notch Peak is a huge chunk limestone in Utah's west desert. (FOR PHOTOS, SEE www.dave.crockett.net/notch.html) And yes the granite in the foreground has some good climbing too.

Notch Peak is about 3.5 hours from S.L.C. A long approach is required but a trail is making its way to the base. You will find a lot of death choss even on Book of Saturday. This wall is one of the biggest walls outside of Yosemite. The granite is called Painter Springs.

Notch Peak is about 50 miles West of Delta Utah, on Highway 50 (almost to Nevada). Four hours from SLC to get past Ibex and around to West side of range. I've since seen that this wall is referred to as the second largest cliff in lower 48 after the Captain. When my partner and I were climbing on the granite (seen in photo at link above) I kept saying....we gotta be in Nevada!!!....it felt so remote and desolate. No waiting in line out there...yet.

That whole area is contaminated by nuclear radiation from the Skull/Goshute storage area and no one should go there any more. The camp spot is especially contaminated.

There is no nuclear contamination in Utah's west desert. That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. Rocknpowda just lost cred with everyone, if there was any to begin with. Enjoy it, there's plenty of notch peak to go around.

Did a little search about contamination....there is stuff stored in the general area, but there isn't any contamination...check out the website run by the local Indian tribe. http://www.skullvalleygoshutes.org/.

If anyone is planning on a trip to Notch - for whatever route, let me know. I'd sure like to come and play. Book of Staurdays looks full of fun. Must be scope for more?

never been there myself, but i've heard stories (good, scary ones). i know there's more than one route, at least a handful go to the summit. a friend of a friend has pushed one route about halfway up the wall, said there was lots of massive, loose stuff that took caution, but that the climbing and exposure was spectacular. i'd love to know more about this place. i suppose it will warrant a trip sometime...

uhhhh....did i say notch peak was in utah?......ooops...i meant that it's really in nevada....out towards reno....or maybe in the ruby mtns. there is a notch peak in utah but it is really not very nice at all and there are so many rattlesnakes that you can't hike without some tall leather boots.....and the red ants will get you if the snakes don't....and then there's the nuclear fallout thing.....
