JVC digital cameras?

I have been looking into getting a Mini DV for my next camera. It is hard to believe all the functionality on those things.

I like the looks of the JVCs the best. Does anyone have opinions about JVC products? Are they well made (durability, clarity, and so on) ?

Does anyone have any experience with the 700x digital zoom feature? Can you actually make out any objects once you have gone to that extent.

Thanks in advance,
WEWF

I`ve a JVC GR-DV2000. When I purchased it I also got a fisheye lens for it as the standard lens is simply not good enough to take those close in shots at a belay. The stills capture card facility is OK but not that great compared to a dedicated digy stills camera.

I`m kinda partial to the Sony in hindsight and wish I had of bought one of these jiggers. I like the ability of the sony to take video in no light with its infrared capacity.

Have a look at em all before you decide.

i have two jvc mini dv cameras. they are as reliable as you can expect a camera that goes climbing, skiing and mountaineering can be. if resolution is not a great issue the new micro dv cameras shoot mpeg2 video which is the equivelent resolution of your typical movie on dvd. these cameras are almost half the size of the mini dv's which shold really help with portability. i recommend that you turn the digital zoom off. all it does is crop the image to make it bigger. you can do the same thing in your editing program. when you need to zoom max out the optical zoom and if you need a tighter shot then do it in the computer.

I have a JVC and a Sony. I like the JVC, but the Sony has more features.

I'm interested in that fisheye lens. Who makes it, where did you get it, etc?
