Just wanting advice on what the La Sportiva Katana's are like. (ed: or what about the La Sportiva Flash?)
I usually avoid La Sportiva like the plague, but, well, I haven't seen these ones here in Oz, and with my bro heading over to the U.S. next week with the promise of coming back with new climbing stuff for me, I wanna know what these are like, in comparison to another shoe, like the Boreal Pyros, or Zen (which I also haven't seen here). Boreal have done wonders for me in the past, but I'm looking for a predominantly gym shoe. I'm sick of trashing my outdoor shoes on the plastic.
ADVICE?

They are the holy grail of sport shoes. Simply unbeatable.

The Katanas are awesome. I use them only in the GYM and the velcro makes them easy on, easy off. They edge very well, smear like no other and heel hooking is easy. Beware, they do not stretch much.

If your Bro is heading to the US, you should consider either 5.10's (dragons or anasazi) or Mad Rocks (mugens or flash). LaSportiva are quite expensive if bought in the US (they are cheap in Europe)

Since you want your new shoes for the GYM only, go with something with velcro.

Best,

C

I tried on a pair the other day - they fit perfectly in the toe box (I have a wide forefoot) but the heel fit was terrible. I tried on a pair sized down two full US sizes (smaller than I would probably wear them normally) and the heel was still loose.
