Dude, this is an awesome thread; a place for peeps to post comps going on in the MidWest. Wish I thought of it first. Anyways.... Climbing comp at Vertical Endeavors in Warrenville, IL on March 13th (I think) $35 for pre-registered and $40 for registration on date of comp. Go to Vertical Endeavor's website for more details. BTW, how was the comp at Boulders in Madsion, WI?

In reply to: BTW, how was the comp at Boulders in Madsion, WI? Now, I wasn't there.. so, this is third party information. But, I heard it was just alright. Good time, but a lot of the routes were very contrived and long (more difficult for smaller competitors). In fact, I believe they even appologized saying that a lot of their route setters were new and not as experienced. Whatever.. still a good place to go and have fun.

In reply to: BTW, how was the comp at Boulders in Madsion, WI? i'd say that it was pretty fun and well run, as usual. my opinion is that Boulders does a good job of routesetting, the atmosphere, and getting people to have a good time climbing w/o the pressure of 'having to place'. (prizes, instead of being gear, this time were varying sizes of milk. last year noodles and beer) historically, the finals have run long and late, but not this time around (we were back on the road home while it was still light out). i thought that the boulder problems were great! as for the routes, they were pretty good too (i particularly liked the 5.10- route that was up--white tape in the center of the gym). in regard to ramylson's 3rd party info (none of this is directed at you personally, ramylson) you'll always have routes that are set reachy for some people, but that's how it is outdoors too. i saw several kids <5' tall having little to no problem on most of them; though, i did see a 3'-4' tall child having reach issues on many of them, but what can the routesetters do? if they need 'x' routes set for the comp, they can't accomodate everyone on all the routes. and i did see people over 5' having issues too, but that's because they needed to step their feet up higher or change their body position; just a technique issue, not reach. and as for some of them being contrived, yes. but so are some routes outdoors...i don't think you can reasonably expect a setter to come up with lots of 'classic' quality routes consistently when they only have so much time, holds, and space/angles to work with.
