lol, wow. It's stunning how fast a normal, easygoing thread can turn into a bashing and insulting flame war on a site like this. :D  :D

Daisy,

Please keep to the subject in the topic. Taking things to personal level for no reason will result in your comments being split into the Community forum.

I'm really new to the sport so I tell my associates and friends "Wow!!! I never really realized just how dangerous a sport climbing is" and wait for the replies.

Aaron, Daisyfay is not the only user who replied to this thread disapprovingly. You may want to see da5id and wildtrail's posts on p. 1. They express the same sentiment.

I see that Daisy edited some posts, so perhaps those are the ones you are referring to when repremanding her. However, if you're just going by her first reply, then I think you're way off. That particular post, anyway, is relevant to the thread. She simply doesn't agree with, or maybe she didn't "get" enigma.

Or, if you are hypothetically (and not directed at anyone in particular) the kind of person who offends nearly all the climbers you happen to come into contact with, you may want to keep some non-climbing friends.

Here are some of mine

1. Helps to keep you feeling special being a rockclimber,(-good for the ego)
2. They always want more photos of you climbing 8)
3. For Birthdays and Holidays you can say an inflated price for gear and ropes,( so you can get a larger gift certicate at REI)
4 No matter if you do a 5.3 or a 5.10 they think its hard :P
5. They can do errands and cook food for you while your at the crags, (you're just to busy to be bothered with the mundane.stuff)
6.They forever ask( "Aren't you Scared, Afraid of Heights" )and say ("You must be so strong".)
.

What's Yours

Enigma,

I was quite clear (and politically correct) in not directing my post to any particular individual. If you feel that my post was "about you" please refer to Carly Simon.

If you climb as poorly as I do, it's essential to have a number of non-climbing friends/acquaintances. To whom else can you make a statement such as this without the slightest trace of embarassment: "I was in big trouble at 15,000 feet. So I tied into my backup rope with a Winchell hitch, re-adjusted my bolster loops, and literally ripjacked my way down the mountain. Nearly dislocated both my shoulders! Quite a descent, even if I say so myself."

Cheers,
Battling Billson

I think there should be a name for those who dont climb. I dont know what, just something crazy.

Like um..

Decker cause they never get off the deck.

Slacker cause they freak out the first time you take them climbing cause you did not take out that 1" of slack in the rope when they "shifted" their hips.

Verd like in verdigo (sp) like in the fear of hieghts

Nate, Mike, Todd, Bryce, Erica, Criag, Lindsey, work too. :P

The funny thing though is that the list is always shrinking. :) :D
