Well, it looks like the training I was supposed to do over spring break isn't going to happen (school budgets... bleah!), so on the bright side, it looks like I might just be able to make it this weekend. I'll know for sure tomorrow and will post it then. Assuming I do make it, I'll be daytripping it down there on Saturday and Sunday. I just recently started building a trad rack- I now own a set of cams, a set of nuts, a set of hexes, some tricams. I can sport lead up to .9s and definitely want to get into leading trad. Anyone into helping out a trad newbie? More to come....

Phadrus: I should be doing some very easy trad with My Better Half Mrs. Mike "Mano" Dano sometime on Saturday, and you're more than welcome to come.

Barf-O-RAMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Actually, Tracy is right...Goat and Lube should NOT be used together...because I hear (from Mike of course) that they are self lubing. Way to look out for us like that Trace. We almost wasted money on that stuff.

My plans are constantly evoloving, but it looks like I will be at the campground Friday morning! I hope to meet up with the gang before everyone heads out. I am going back to Colorado Springs for the evening to have dinner with a friend, but I will be back for the sordid activities that are sure to accompany this gathering. SEE YOU TOMORROW MORNING!!!! :D

11Mile has a good variety of everything. There are some very decent, even exceptional, beginner trad routes - the best .5 in CO, some say, in Staircase, and lots of .6 and .7 trad scrambles. Be prepared for sharp, crimpy granite, and lots of nubbins. A large number of routes are in the .7-.9 range, trad and slab. There are harder routes both trad and sport, but the sport is kinda lacking (IMHO) for numbers and quality. A few good low 10s. There is bouldering as well; my pad is in the van. Most of what I've experienced takes medium cams and nuts well. If you have a 70m, bring it; several very decent climbs require that or passing a knot on belay. There are several TR options if you first climb an easier pitch, including a nice steep thin 11b that I'll recommend. A long cordalette or long slings are useful for setting belays on most of the pitches - not many of the features are close enough for a double redundant anchor in the same place. Most crags have walk-offs, so tevas are a good idea. Most approaches are in the neighborhood of 10 secs to 2 minutes. There is a stream for filtering water, and restrooms at the campgrounds. Just outside the canyon there are two general stores, but don't expect to be able to get to a market for real food unless you drive 20 minutes down to Woodland. From what I've climbed, this isn't somewhere to push out your lead grade on hard trad - Turkey and Eldo are more suited. This will probably be a more mellow gathering, considering the good routes - lots of 7s, 8s, and 9s. There should be enough QDs and cam sets to go around depending on what people want to try. I'll share recommendations in the AM with whomever is there. :) See ya at 10ish.

So it turns out I won't be doing that training after all, so I'll be down to 11mile on Saturday! When, where, etc. are we meeting? I want a goat with nice, big handlebars... err... horns. :D

C'mon MTNGEO, get some rack time in and head out this evening. Sleep is overrated. I was looking forward to playing a game of spades and drinking a beer or 24 with you. Oh yeah, who's bringing cards?

I think some of these times are a little optimistic. At night the temperatures will be in the 20's, I PERSONALLY will probably wait until about 10am or so to hit the rock and try to climb late into the evening to take advantage of the sun. The highs this weekend are only in the upper 50's lower 60's. Just my DM 0,02

In reply to: 9 AM?!?!?! YIKES!!!!!! I thought it was closer to 10?!?!? I've got a 3 1/2 hour drive minimum from Winter Park and won't be there by 9 AM. It may be as late a noon, so if you wouldn't mind leaving some sort of generalized idea on mikedano's pleasingly aesthetic sign (replete with visuals) as to whar y'all will be, I'll hook up with you then. Otherwise, I'll wander the canyon yodeling for goats. You think I'm kidding, eh? 8) See you Saturday! skibby My guess is just listen for the goats and you'll find us. 9:00 a.m. is a bit early, but by the time we get the intros, whipped cream and such done with, it'll be closer to 10 or 11. Doss will be with me, too, and he's ALL ABOUT goat sex, so... we'll see you guys there! Todd
