Does anyone use any of the little rubber thingies to keep the rope-end biner on a quickdraw from swiveling around? I see Petzl makes a little rubber boot called a String to go over the runner and BD makes something they call a Dog-Bone. Seems like I remember some guys talking about using o-rings or rubber bands. I haven't used any of these, but was wondering if they help or what your experiences with them have been.

I've got both the boot form Petzl and the o-ring on narrow sewn webbing they are both good and well adapted to the webbing on witch they are put. The Petzl is sifter and so is the webbing, this is good if you know you’re going to the left or the right of your protection as the rope will slip on the side opposite the gate of the biner. The o-ring on small webbing is only good to make sure the biner did not flip or is not cross loaded from a fall and the narrow webbing is not stiff enough to allow the biner’s gate to open if you placed your draw’s gate on the wrong side.

I use the Petzl gizmos on most of my draws. I've also used rubber bands or tape, but the commercial Petzl versions are sturdier and last much longer. They're a good investment, particularly if you catch them on sale.

i just used medical tape, works well, i was able to tape it tight enough that they won t move at all. i used a half width piece, about 6 inches long, so weight is pretty nil.

I started with the petzls, but rubber bands are free, and last a while, and I find the hold more stably than tape, and without mess taking on or off. I use them on longer trad sings too, just to keep the biners on the rope ends from flipping about. Strap one, then double back as usual if needed. peace, -p

The commercial ones are a waste of money IMHO. I've used rubber bands and they work for a little while until they break. The best thing I've found is the little rubber-band like hair ties. (I don't know what the official word for them would be). Try to get the ones without the little metal crimp. They are like $2 for a bag of 50 or something. I've been using them for over 4 years and have yet to have one break.

I agree with the hair ties. They last longer then rubber bands and they do not break as easy. They are also very cheap.

I've had success with gromet froms Mouser. It's an electronic supply house. The item is somewhere around these pages. My connection is too slow right now to search any further for you. http://www.mouser.com/catalog/614/831.pdf
