If you like to boulder try Rock City. It's an odd little place in the middle of nowhere but good for an afternoon. From Manhattan head west on I-70 for about 50 miles then north on Hwy. 81 and watch for signs after about 15 miles and/or get a map. It's near the town of Minneapolis, KS. Finger friendly orb shaped sandstone boulders up to about 18 feet high. Most are less than 12 feet tall but have sit start options. Lots of horizontal cracks, a few sloping dishes, and nice flat landings. There's few independent lines, mostly elminates and traverses. I think it's $4 a car. Give it a try.

I'm from Kansas originally and started climbing at KU. I recommend becoming a weekend warrior going to the Front Range as much as possible. Then, I would move away from Manhattan at your first opportunity. :!: :!:

I live in Wichita, KS, and we have a great! gym here, called the Kansas Cliff Club. It is not as good as Ibex but we do have 90 ft. climbs outside, leadbale, many cracks, slab and much more, come check us out some time, i would be happy to give you more info if needed. We are cheap too, $10 for all day of climbing! Stephen

Live in Kansas, think road-trip. The Witchitas in SW Oklahoma have some nice granite, mostly trad and undeveloped bouldering, some bolted sport. NW Arkansas has hard sandstone and some limestone as well. Colorado front range isn't that much further. Hope you like road trippin.

Hey, I'm in Manhappiness, too. Just about to graduate, though. Unfortunately, as you probably know, there isn't much. Buildering on campus is pretty fun, but gets old. Rock City will keep you busy for the occasional sunny afternoon. Other than that, I hope you get good mileage. PM me if you ever want to climb.

When I got to K-State I found their out-dated website and emailed the admin and he relayed the news.

I figured it might be better to resurrect an old thread, rather than starting a new one. I also find myself in Manhattan. After leaving Fort Collins, CO I am experiencing culture shock and am frustrated with the lack of climbing around here. Anyway, does anyone have any updated info for climbing in Kansas, particularly around Manhattan? Any developments in the area? I believe that Ibex closed...I may have to open a climbing gym in Manhattan--we'll see. Otherwise, is there anyone that goes to Kansas Cliff Club in Wichita? If so, hit me up and we can carpool. Cheers.

Pretty sure Ibex is still open. A friend of mine who lives in Kansas City goes there once a week otherwise she climbs at Monster Mountain in Overland Park. Here's their website: http://emeraldcitygym.com/rockwall/ She climbs there because it's close and cheap. That's all I got for ya. d.

I got tired of there not being a place to climb, so my buddy and I built a bouldering wall in his living room. We climb on Thursday nights - email dhackett@ksu.edu, but don't email me after I graduate in May 2010.

Hi, Im a keen Climber from Australia and have to move to Manhattan Kansas for Job at the university. I noticed there is not much climbing in manhattan or Kansas for that matter. I used to help out at a climbing gym before so if anyone is interested in setting up something, even if its just a bouldering wall, then Id like to help out. I will also be interested in going on road trips as well. Thanks
