--So you followed it, lead it, and now you done the same climb so many times you've lost count. You know the moves, the feet, the hands, an expert on the beta. (To the unknowing you seem skilled, but you just have the climb wired.) Perhaps its a local crag, your favorite climb, but wait is it still the same as climbing a new 5.10 or whatever??? What's your thoughts???? :?: :?:

I heard once that if you like a climb, you can do it again, and again, and AGAINANDAGAIN!!!!. Wild, huh?

Jesus.... it sounds like you need to either IMPROVE or EXPAND YOUR CIRCUIT. Or both.

Or both. ---Oh I get around to new areas, (don't worry,).. it was just a question that I have been thinking about , but I like new climbs usually. I just noticed it particularly when I've climbed with some locals, I guess I was hoping someone who does this alot would explain the benefits of repeating the same climbs. 8)

if it was super sketchy the first time, and focuses on your particular weakness (e.g. lots of dynamic moves, or lots of lock offs, or whatever..) then repeating it will help to improve this weak spot. but after a while i think the benefit due to this diminishes. i guess it is sort of for a "zen" like experience, if it is a super cool climb. i could calm you down and get you in that "send" mood...

If I like a climb that much, I eventually end up soloing it. If it is outside my limit of soloing, I often use favorite hard climbs as a benchmark for my strength. I've got crappy tendons and other stuff that keep me out of climbing way too often and slowly return! Setting up routines of climbs is a good way to build endurance and strength probably, but I've been too lazy to do this.

Incorporate it as one of your warmups and move to higher graded projects.

I love the crown at Horsepens. Everytime I visit, I send that thing three or four times. It's not particularly hard, but the moves are sooooo beautiful. sidepull sidepull sidepull UP hahaha shit I love that problem

isn't the definition of a classic climb something that is worth doing over and over? If you enjoy the climb once why not climb it again? Unfortunately, most of us don't have the time to repeat our favorite climbs we feel we need to do something new all the time our we aren't making progress but on occasion I think it is great to go back and redo stellar climbs whether at my limit or far below it.

In reply to: I was hoping someone who does this alot would explain the benefits of repeating the same climbs. There are climbs at many of our local areas i hit as my first climb simply as a warm up... ususlly an easier climb i've done a million times just to get the juices flowing... but, as others have said in this post, there's those others in this area that are just soooooo friggin' fun! :D and they just don't ever get boring... i suppose if they did i would stop doing them... A few "classics" in my area: -Wisconson Beef 5.9+/5.10a -Baba Cool 5.10a -Valdeez Overhang 5.9 -Waves 5.8 -Bolts for Bob 5.8 -France by Chance 5.10b just to name a few... these climbs may be easier but they are just fun! every time i top out i'm happy and i did it again... besides, fun is what climbing is all about, right?

onsight is the essence of trad. , but still I seem to climb some of the routes around Hidden Valley campground every time I'm out in J-Tree. The main benefit I can see is convience. "Hey, you wanna go do Pinched Rib real quick before the sun goes down?"

Climbing a climb you know better than you know your own name... is prob ok if you do some warm-ups. But doesn't it get boring?

Some routes, Trad especially, are simply so fun that they are worthwhile lazy weekend afternoon routes. You want to climb, but you're still too worked from cranking out a 5.12 offwidth the day before, so you cruise its approach climb (which goes at a stiff 5.6 by the way). Its not hard, its splitter and it just feels good.

I don't really care. If its there in front of me i'll do it. I've done routes tens of times but they are still fun climbs. Climbing is climbing and as long as your having fun, while being safe, your experiencing why people climb.

For myself, I like doing new stuff so much that I have a hard time redpointing a route cause I'ld rather get on something else and try to onsight it instead of trying the same route over and over again in an attempt to get a redpoint. but that's just me.
