I'm not a local, but I head up to the Okanogan area 4 or 5 times a year. Trying to gather more info on the region to maximise my trips, can anyone help?

canrocker; There is a very useful guide book written by Dean Urness, I believe it's called Kelowna Rock Climbs. You can pick it up at Mosaic books downtown Kelowna or Chapters. Four spots are a quick jaunt from Kelowna. Kelowna Crags and Boulderfield being the most worthwhile IMO. Cheers, Mike [ This Message was edited by: rockpossum on 2003-02-08 02:01 ]

Just looking for climbers in the area. I haven't had a chance to meet a whole bunch of people to climb with yet http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/listArea.php?AreaID=167 Skaha. I think you can get the Kelowna area guidebook from Far West too.

UGH, I'm back...after a long list of injuries and rehab time, funny how life goes sometimes :P Was at the Kelowna crags last weekend and managed to flail my way up a few climbs, luckily my broken body held out for the most part  It was really nice to get back on the rock again!! What's even better is snowboarding in the morning and climbing in the afternoon!! WOOHOO!!

Just wanted to say hello. I'm really from Winfield but its all the same valley. I normally climb at the Crux in the winter and can't wait for the weather to smarten up so I can get outdoors.

Well I might as well pop in and say Hi as well here...climb at The Crux as well (year round), been getting outside a promising amount so far this year, hopefully it continues! :) Anyone been up to the boulderfields yet this season? Is it snow free? Snow level looks just a couple hundred feet higher than the Kelowna Crags (or did last Sunday when I looked)... Mike...

We had our rc.c gathering in Kelowna last year on the May Long Weekend, there have been rumors we'd have it again... Mike Ross (Kelownaclimber, and a route pioneer) got us all a campsite next door to the waterpark, and a wonderful time was had by all who attended... even though the weather crapped out on us. Mike has disappeared on us though (if anyone knows how to get ahold of him, PLEASE HAVE HIM CONTACT ME), and my attempts to reach him about another gathering have all failed. I love The Bluffs, no climbing area I have ever been (except maybe Tuolomne) has ever spoken to my soul the way the beautiful banded gniess of the wild rose country has. It is the most spectacular urban climbing I have ever visited. Can you tell I love the place? Jeff http://pages.prodigy.net/.../emoticons/wave1.gif

Dunno about the boulderfields, they should be snow free by now. The crags have been dry for awhile now. krustyklimber, wasn't the gathering held # Skaha (Penticton)? I love Skaha even though it can get very busy some weekends :D

There hasn't been snow in Kelowna since February. I live in the Mission area, smack inbetween the Kelowna Crags and Mount Bousherie. But if there's another gathering this year in Kelowna, someone let me know!! I'd love to get in more climbing!!! Here's what the weather was like in March. Seeings it's now April, the weather's getting warmer and warmer.

In reply to: Anyone been up to the boulderfields yet this season? Is it snow free? Snow level looks just a couple hundred feet higher than the Kelowna Crags (or did last Sunday when I looked)... Mike... To totally answer my own question, the boulderfields are COLD (well, in the city it was like 16 today, up there it was 5). But cripes it was nice...just....cold. The only snow to be found was wedged deep between rocks in the talus. Something cool about topping out to clean the draws off a route, and running down in a tanktop, when it's snowing around you. Unexpected...anyways, yeah, boulderfields are totally a go for this season, so GO! Mike... --I get a feeling this isn't actually replying to the original message, and is starting a new one...el sucko, not what I wanted to do. Whatever...

Well, figured I havn't said anything for awhile..... I'd be up for meeting may long. My prob, though, is that my plan for buying rope kinda went to the side (for now)...an expected expense came up earlier than I had anticipated.....so if you don't mind someone hangin' off your rope ..............i'm in..... Oh, yeah.....I have the rest of the gear. Cheers Nick
