Absolutely...you will never heal tendonitis unless you give yourself lots of time to rest and heal.

injuries similar to the ones that you have should at least have a 3 month rest period(absolutely no climbing doc) and 3 more months of rehab, after the 6 month period see yer doctor for a check up. [ This Message was edited by: marcsv on 2001-08-06 02:59 ]

Give it some time to heal...that may mean climbing easy or not at all; ask your doctor, they know what they're talking about.

ice can help if only used within 48 hours after the injury. do not ice it if its beyond the the 2 day period. you would want to heal faster, so promote blood flow by using hot compress until you heal completely

go in and see your local orthopedic if it isnt getting better after 2-3 weeks of rest. they can give you cortisone shots to help with recovery or even surgery. i have had several in my elbow and my index finger. going in for surgery this winter for the "tenis elbow". i had 2 shots in the finger and it was clear in (while climbing light and taped) in 6 weeks. it had been nagging fo about 6 months. sucks getting old!

Ice is still useful, even past 48hours. Icing helps reduce inflamation. So if you have tendonitis (or any injured ligament/joint/muscle) and do some light exercise, 20mins of ice afterwards will help reduce the hyperactive swelling response from your body. But definately take it easy... and see a doc.
