Anyone here done made their own rungs for their own campus boards? I want to add a couple of rungs under my fingerboard but don't need a whole set(which seems to be the only way they are sold in the UK)... If you have made your own rungs what type of wood did you use and how did you prepare it to prevent splinters etc? Cheers..

buying campus rungs is a waste of money. just go buy some 2x2's, 1x2's and even moulding. You can find some sick thin stuff. Pine is probably best or maybe something harder If you have access to a router, put a nice curve on the top edge of the rungs. Make sure to sand them down to make em nice and smooth too. I had a board that actually had 2x4 rungs but there were pockets routed into the center part of the 2x4. just an idea I guess..

You can go to the hardware store and get hardwood dowels of the diameter you want (3/4" - 1 1/2"). Run one side through a tablesaw (or planer?) to get a flat surface for mounting. I like these. Lot's of flexibility in regards to size/difficulty yet rounded and easy on the fingers.

i would go for a little harder wood. you can also make alternating rungs, like one is rounded on the top, the second isnt, or the first smaller than the second. buying rungs is a waste of time, theyre too easy to DIY.
