This may be late since I've been out of the climbing mags this summer. Today I glanced at rockandice.com and saw reference to a new column by Dr. Piton, who I assume would be Pete from this site. Congrats! That's too cool... I will try to catch this in print b/c next spring/fall would like to try a wall/aid.

He also got a mention in the latest copy of Australia's Rock magazine in an article on climbing in Yosemite. I'm not sure whether the author was dissing him or not though, the reference was something like this: (in regard to entry into the hardcore "club" of climbers in the Valley) "Some seem to think that the only requirements for entry are an alliterative nickname, tolerance for pain and a difficult personal life... we met a Canadian who introduced himself as Pass the Pitons Pete." hmmmm... you work it out!

Congrats Pete, looks like your strategy to get in print is WORKING! Can't wait for the next issue to hit the stores, since it's snowing in the valley, and everyone knows you can't climb a wall in the snow. Anna

"Strategy"? I used to be 'accused' of having a 'hidden agenda' - hell, it was never hidden - I wrote in big capital letters I wanted a 'paying gig'. But yeah - it's working. [My detractors have no idea how much their writing about me helps my cause, because in the publishing business, most all publicity is good, except something like "what Pete writes is terrible." And I've been accused of many things - some of them even true! - but being a bad writer isn't among them] I got this email from Duane yesterday: Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003 09:26:26 -0700 From: Duane Raleigh To: 'Pass the Pitons' Pete Zabrok [peterzabrok@cogeco.ca] Dr. P, The new column ran about 200 words long and I ended up having to trim back the questions, and a bit on the answers ... The new design for the magazine and especially Dr. Piton looks superb. DR -- Duane Raleigh Group Publisher Rock and Ice, Trail Runner We're actually pretty excited about the whole thing. The response has been superb! There are several future columns already written, and ready to go! At any rate, the best thing that you can do is to WRITE to Rock & Ice Magazine, and ASK DR. PITON! Here, I'll even make it easy for you: Please click the photo to email me and ASK DR. PITON:

In reply to: And I've been accused of many things - some of them even true! - but being a bad writer isn't among them A number of people have commented to me that they tried to garner information about wall climbing from your postings here on RC but couldn't take wading through all the self-congratulatory verbiage that comprises your writing style. I've had the same experience and have thought to myself --- Pete needs a writer/editor to collaborate with in order publish his wall climbing ideas. Your two recent articles in Climbing and R&I (I can never remember which rag is which) were both nicely succinct however. And that caricature of you looks perfectly evil and egotistic. Nice work.
