Moderators said I can create our support group but have to be more serious and show no disrespect to any un-named professional climbers with injuries, or make fun or normal people. So we start: This support group is for people like Soma: ---------------- I thought I was alone when I lost the ring and the pinky finger on my left hand in what has been referred to as a short cut (I was trying to support a family of five when my wife was unemployed). My climbing has obviously improved since I only began a year after my "shortcut". I have often wondered if I can now morally park in handicap spaces because of this injury. This thread has provided inspiration for the rest of my life. ----------------- People like us took a hit, we were down, and now we are back and stronger then ever. Our group doesn't accept victims or whiners. We only accept people that want to rise up above the unwashed masses to inspire others who are struggling. Rules: 1) Can't diss normal people or people outside our group 2) Have to laugh at self 3) Have to be missing some visible piece of the body that is crucial to climbing 4) Have to write a note that inspires others who may be struggling 5) If you submit picture of your missing piece (no sex pictures please) I will annoint you a member of the club.....Do this through the photo link. This is my story......... This is member #1 of the 9.5 club. This is Stubby my finger and I doing our morning pullups.... http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=Show&PhotoID=18931 Stubby lost his step-finger in a table saw accident when I was 1 year old. When I started climbing I didn't even know I was missing a finger until people pointed it out. After I started hitting 12's, I would whine that my finger kept me from getting better. Then I saw a picture of a professional climbing athlete that climbs 5.15 and is married to be.. ro..en that I cannot name, and I knew I had a lot of work to do, no more whining. My life has changed and nothing can stop me now. I love showing people I can climb 12's without 10 digits, makes them think. I love the blind guy Eric who trad climbs 5.10's So if you have a story like Soma or I, or know other climbers that are missing body parts, please send them our way. Photos encouraged. Peace, dreez PS. Thanks to moderators for letting this thread continue.

It kind of sucks for me: I'm a disabled vet. Have the purple card and everything but don't get money or any of that. I can go to the veterans hospital free, but have my own insurance and go to a private Dr. when I need to. I had a skull injury, but most of my brain is still there. I could take a pic of a real nice scar, but except for my stubby penis, I still have all of my body parts. Sigh: I still wish you all well. I hung around a bunch of real positve veterans at the Vets club for a few years and it was awesome.!!! regards: Bill

Sounds ugly, but people that can grow back body parts are in a totally different league. Sorry.

Man, I truly feel your pain and this sounds challenging, is it OK if we make you an auxilarily member. Still looking for missing body parts, with pictures. Best if pictures climbing with missing body parts. Also we have to have the full story, from injury to full glory. dreez

If I'm a member can I now vote for free beer for all members? Katydid, thanks for the compliment!! Are you sure that was me though? I suspect it may have been some young stud and not me. I'm about 49 years old now???Must be old if I forgot climbing with you!! Seriously, I am way too close to having most of it together to be anything other than an auxilary member. I did the time but it was only 2 years even if it seemed like most of a lifetime. The best part of being an auxillary member may be meeting some remarcqable folks. I think there are some great canadites for membership. The late Dave Edspeth who drowned Kayaking the White Salmon (class v) one cold day. I still remember walking down Burma road at Smith with Dave, who had had BOTH his legs amputated below the knee and was at the time of this story wearing 2 metal legs: say very wearilly to the large western diamondback rattlesnake who rattled a warning when we surprised him (and us) while walking back from a long day of climbing " go ahead" and raising his pant leg in a brazen show of metal for the snake to peruse!!! Or I think to the other Katy (formerly from Oregon) who got her leg wacked by a falling boulder in Ourey and carried her leg into the emergency room (she had help!) , or a Mike Wellman and feel that may be some of the inspirational role models and members you're looking for. Katies story: and I guess she really was carrying her own leg that day. http://outside.away.com/magazine/0695/6f_wintr.html Regards all: Bill

 Wow, Bill, thanks for the link. Reminds me to be happy I wake up in one piece every morning. There was a two year period when I had a removable prosthesis (now I have a permanent one) but not with any of my necessary (read: climbing) parts! I feel like a true weenie for any whining I did during that time and I truly admire the courage of my fellow climbers.

Bill, You are already making a great auxilary member. Great story about Katie. True inspiration. I usually whine about every bump I get, and she held it together missing a leg!!! Wow. We should start rating these stories. My story is about a 4. She gets a 9. dreez

Top This. Just did Mushroom People 5.10+ Brass Wall in Red Rocks. My partner said he saw a guy lead it with no right hand. As in only a stub. I could barely do the crux on second with two hands. Crux move on left curving crack. One handed (left) lieback with only pinkies. One tipie toe (left) inside tiny crack. Lie back up to tiny flakes both hands (if you got them). Whoever you are, you are a god. dreez
