what is this warriors way thing, anyway? I joined the group because it sounded like a way to get more intense and lead-comfortable, is that the case? ~Brian

warrior's way is mental training for climbers designed by a climber, arno ilgner, who has 30 years of experience - all over the US and has founded an institute that teaches courses with 7 principles of improving you as a climber by addressing any issues you may have. not that everybody has them but - he teaches commitment whether it is falling, dealing with the chaos that you feel you are undergoing while making moves, trusting yourself and your judgment - your partner - accepting responsibility for how you climb in order to make the experience more enjoyable as well as a learning experience. that can be very intense. it's about the journey - about what you are learning from the route and having fun while you are learning. hope that helps clarify some - his book: The Rock Warrior's Way is online and available and a valuable tool to anybody - young, old, or in between who wants to improve.

I'd say a lot of it has to do with really understanding why you're climbing and hopefully getting to the point where what used to be frustrations are now opportunities. But not in a wishy washy newagey sort of way. I mean look, we all agree that how you think about what you're doing has a really large effect on how you're going to do. That is, performance is hugely in your head. So this book tries to clarify and eliminate some of the mind pitfalls that can bring you down (physically) and gives some solid tools for controlling thoughts that aren't helpful by ingraining new thought habits.

Brian, The Warrior's Way is about focusing your mental resources during a risk/stress/challenge situation. It boils down to attention and what you do with it. Most of us are very distracted when faced with the above mentioned situation. The ww helps us understand how our attention leaks away from the challenge we're facing and how to focus it back onto the task at hand.
