I have a friend who bought six Omega Pacific draws at EMS during their last sale. I am a huge BD snob - just curious if anyone has anything to say: good or bad about these draws. I don't know much about their reliability. Thanks, JD

Not sure about their quickdraws specifically, but I like the JC wiregates better than any BD wiregates. I'm not a big fan of BD biners generally, but it all depends on what feels good.

I appreciate all of your input. Sounds like she made a good choice. I hope you all have a great time with your new EMS gear. :) Sounds like everyone went there and scored on the draws. :) I just geared up with some snowshoes, mountaineering axe, snow shovel - 14'ers here I come. Peace, JD

I have 3 OP quickdraws. The biners are too large and clunky. I prefer my black diamond neutrinos and hotwires. they biners are smaller, lighter and the draws are dyneema. That's just my opinion from use. I will note that I most often either leave those draws at home, or steal the biners from them to use for racking. Cheers.

I have a few different kinds of OP draws. One set has the rainbow draws with wiregate omegalite 4.0's. I like the gate action of these biners... real hard to miss a clip even in a pretty sketchy stance. I also have the rainbow draw with the JC on one side and the straight classic (?) on the other side. These are ok draws too. Lastly I have the OP 'alpine draw'. This has a yates sling with the doval on one side and the JC on the other. I would not buy the last combination agian. I would rather 'build' my own quickdraws. The doval/JC combination is super light, but the doval doesn't have a CE number on it. I'm sure it's ok and all, but I dunno why it wouldn't have the certification stamped on it if it had it. Was OP too cheap to pay for certification?... is it pending test results?.. or did it not pass testing for the certification? Overall, I think OP draws are a great value for their price. -Brian

Better than the Enduro draws. They have a bigger radius so they won't wear your ropes as much. Omega has always made good products from what i've experienced. For draws i perfer wiregates so i won't say they're the best out there but for normal gates, i'd buy em.

I'm all about BD also, but I love omega krabs, they have some good draws, like the one with the 5-0 (blue thing) but I've never heard rave reviews of them (no bad either)

All my draws are Spirit/JC combos, and I must say, the JC is probably the best rope-clipping carabiner I've ever used. That said, if you want to buy completed "draws", I'd recommend the Cliptomaniac draws from Kong.

In reply to: I don't know much about their reliability What are they, a car engine? What's to be unreliable about a couple of carabiners and a sling? OP has been making carabiners for a long time and they make a very nice product. Their basic carabiners (regular assym D's) are basically the same as enduros or just about anything else on the market. I have omegalite 4.0s on nearly all my qd's and they are one of the best clipping biners I have used. The omegalite 5.0s look very nice too. JCs are as light as nutrinos and have a larger rope bearing surface. I think they are easier to clip too but they are both harder to clip than a larger biner. Dovals are kinda weird but neat. Only they are a bit garish with that red color.

Down here in Oz, we hear that Omega Pacific have criminal's make the Omega quickdraws in prison instead of making numberplates. Doesn't phase me if they do or don't (I sell them and climb on them anyways). I know it is such an easily flammable question, but I had to ask if there is any truth to it?

Yes omaga does use inmates to manufacture their gear. If you ask me its a damn good idea. Take a look. http://www.omegapac.com/inmate.html

I like them alot iv only been climbing sport for a little bit but i think they are a good draw. Also as a person that is a major in criminal justice i think its good that they are doing what they are doing in the correctional system, makes me want to buy them that much more.
