i've been climbing straight for about 12 days, and am a month new into it... i actually improved really well about four days ago, hitting routes i never thought i could, but since then, it seems, i just can't get anything anymore. help! i love the wall and want only to get better and better-- i am quite proud of the scratches and bruises on my hands and arms and smile every time i see them because it means i work hard, but lately... those good climbs haven't been coming. i don't know what's wrong-- i'm starting to get stuck on routes that 've already made mine before... is it that i just need to get over this mentally? or am i climbing too much, not enough?

thanks

Everyone who responds to this is going to tell you the same thing I think. TAKE A REST DAY! If you've been climbing every day for the last 2 weeks you should probably take several rest days. It's good that you're motivated but overtraining does more harm than good.

Play hard, rest hard.

Some guys like Malcom Smith do the no rest day program, but if doesn't work for you - and it really sound like it isn't - fresh tactics.

Ha. I'm also new to climbing and saw the title and thought, "Hey that's what happened to me." Last Monday I climbed for about 2.5 hours and practiced dynoing and then for class on Wednesday I couldn't climb anything. I made 1 of 3 routes but 12 days straight. Oh well.

The most number of days a week you should climb is 4. More than that and you're on the short list for tendon injuries. Your body needs time off to recover and strengthen.

you not only are wearing your body down, but may be suffering from burnout.
