I am a larger than average climber, 6'-3" and a solid 240lbs. I'm sick of wearing pants that restrict my movement during stemming and high stepping. Dose anyone know of a brand of climbing pants that would fit a bigger guy like myself?

Prana makes great pants, and they're a little larger than the size indicates because they shrink some. Buy a pair of XL's and don't ever dry them. Go to prana.com and try the "Seva Drawstring" or the "Dorado."

Duck into an Army-Navy surplus store, and buy a pair of heavy-duty BDU pants. They should be loose enough to allow free movement, and durable enough to withstand some abuse from climbing.
An old friend in Georgia won't climb in anything else.... he loves his BDUs. FYI, he's 5'10" and 220 or so.

pranas, but theyre somewhat bulky and so i dont like them under a harness.
but i love cassin pants. theyre somewhat stretchy so htey dont restrict movemen and just loose enough to look good and not interfere with my harness.

I all serious the army pants work great. I also use old kacky paints, I usually buy the ones with pockets in the thigh area the ones that were really cool about four years ago.
I am tall too 6-2 and I have the same problems with paints restricting me too. Since I have found two pair that fit great I have not worn shorts, saves on the nasty gashes and the poison ivy and green briar.
Here is a big tip too buy them at least one size too big in the waist. TO the point you need a belt to keep them on. Don't worry your harness will keep them on once oyu start climbing. This works great for me cause i do alot of frog squats and high steps. I think what happens you then get the space for your hips to turn out.

I've got a pair of structure chinos that work great and have taken me up pitches on T-wall, through Hueco, all across horsepens, saved my skin in a nasty bike spill, and that I can still wear to go dancing.
Don't bother with the specialized mountaineering crap unless you're going to worry about extremes of temp or somesuch.

I know exactly how you feel about restrictive pants while climbing. You say that you're 6'3" 240 Eh? I see I'm not the only heavy weight out there. :D I'm about 5'11ish 200lbs, ya.. no biggy... I have a 32" waist and 27"ish 28"ish thighs (Kilt worthy 8) but somehow I don't think the climbing partners would like that though :shock: ) . Well as you no doubt know, climbing companies don't cater to the big guys as much, so, I finally broakdown a while back and gave up on trying to find a pair of pants for summer climbing (Ice climbing is a different story... The search for the perfecr pair of pants I fear will be unending in that field), so I went to the fabric store... A couple of hours later... and then a couple more (hmm, so that's what happens when you make up a pattern on your own :lol: ) and I had the sweetest pair of light quick-dryying climbing/ bouldering pants. They're super light and have stood up to two summers of sport and trad and winter of training in the gym. If ya can sew, make em yourself, if not you can probable find another climber who'll make em for a case of beer (or a shiny new piece of gear).

Actually I have climbed in a kilt, fun but drafty. I'm glad to know that there are large climbers out there. Unfortunately I still think I'm pushing the limit of critical mass for climbing (38" waist, aroud the hip bones , 28" thighs)

I'm not as big as you, but I do have big legs, and I can't stand the typicall climbing industry pants.
I use Sporthill pants which were originally designed for runners, but I think they're the best thing going for climbing.
They're like tights, except they're not tight, so you don't feel like the ex-drummer in an 80's rock band, but they are tight enough that they don't get in the way of your feet or restrict the movement of your legs.
They make a number of different weights of pants. I prefer the Voyage pants:

I prefer cheap pants that i don't mind wearing through. Climbing pants take some abuse and i hate to see expensive clothing getting ruined. I use something that i don't care if the knees wear through...

I love the Asana pants from lululemon. Granted they're not "climbing pants" per se, but if you can't wear yoga pants for climbing, what good are they?
They only have a few shops in Canada, but you can order them from the online store at www.lululemon.ca They're worth wading through the pseudo-hippy manifesto.
Their clothes fit big. I'm about 6'3, 205lbs, with a 36" waist, and the larges fit a little loose.
