Thanks for the info Gonzo. Where can I find more detailed info on the routes at Welington dome? Is it mostly sport or are there trad routes as well? What are the camping or housing facilities like? What does it cost and does one need to get special permissions to go and climb?

Rock on

check out saclimb.co.za. There have been a few route additions since the RD was posted, but it should provide a fair amount of info on Wellingtons Dome. (awesome climbing ... go there, soon!!!) "Big dreamers never die" is incredible - big exposure on the crux pitch!!!

The owner of the property has a farm about five km's down the road, where you can find decent camping sites, cooking facilities and a much appreciated shower. Or you could camp right at the Dome,... but you'd need to take a ****load of water along (and a shovel).

A few new routes have been added to the face which is situated to the left of the main face.

Hi PWSK, sorry for the late reply, I don't check the site that often. Wellingtons dome is compltely sport (as far as I know), the rock is flakey and a helmet is advised. As far as I know the mcsa recently purchased/signed some sort of a deal, u do need to contact them for a permit. The farmer Jaap Moller who stays in a small farm is friendly and has set up a small camp site with facilities. Enjoy.

After recent development (especially on the Main Face trad is not really an option any more, but the sports climb are really worth while. A word of advice : Don't go there in the summer as temperatures easily reach more the 40 degrees.
