Does anyone know where the climbing sequences for the James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only" were shot? I looked through the credits, but couldn't see anything specific (I could have missed it). Anybody?

I'm not sure where it was filmed but here is an interesting fact. The SLCD's that were used in that scene were the only "gaget" used in a Bond movie that is "off the shelf." Yes I'm a dork. Yes everybody knows it.

is this the scene where he puts the cam in the pocket at the bottom and then pounds in piton the rest of the way? then takes a whipper and manages to prusik back up and take out the guy before he beats out the last piton, so bond would have decked, with his gun. classic scene but a can't remember why doesn't he just shoot him other than the fact that bond can't die?

classic scene but a can't remember why doesn't he just shoot him other than the fact that bond can't die? come on every one knows you just can't shoot bond, you have to give him an agonizing slow death watched over by an incompetent guard or something like that. if villians thought to just actually shoot him, there would have probably only been one or two movies

[quote="dingus]Now for advanced climbing and Bond trivia... who was the stunt climber? (hint - he also did the ski/parachute jump off the Baffin Island formation (one of the very first base jumpers in fact) (hint hint - author of weird big wall route in Yosemite) DMT Geez Dingus...way to many clues. It's Rick (sillyvester) Sylvester of Olympic Valley fame. and of course Son of Heart, a studly route by anyones measure Pat

Rick Sylvester skied off of Mt. Asgard, I believe. In one of those movies. I met him once in the Mt. Room bar back when I was a real bad boy (bad in the BAD term, not in the good one). You know, when the bar was all sleeky black and had all these huge B & W hero photos of climbers on the wall. Someone introduced me to him cuz I liked to jump off things too. I liked the bar back then. Kind of like a place to meet your local mafia member. I was a little pissed when they changed it and drove the masses into a netherworld of Olde English 800. What funky route did he do? I remember seeing his name on something in the Reid guide but am too lazy to go look it up. He had big cajones. BASE was a baby back then. I don't know if the term had even been invented yet. Trivia: What other lovable cliff did he ski off of?

In reply to: What funky route did he do? The one I was thinking of was Via sin Aqua, the route that ascends Yosemite Falls. DMT

In reply to: He climbed in Meteora ( http://www.rockclimbing.com/...Area.php?AreaID=3230), where there are monastaries on top of pillars that are hundreds of feet tall, it is really incredible. I went there three years ago, not to climb, but to sight-see, and there are some cliffs that are unbelievable. Thanks! Maybe I'll get there someday, just to see it!

In reply to: Trivia: What other lovable cliff did he ski off of? El Cap, three times, as a warm up for the real thing.

In reply to: Due to the steepness of the rock, in order to shoot Mr. Bond he would have had to lean way out like he was 20 feet tall or something. He couldn't do that so he went for the pins. I always liked that scene. Thank you Dingus. I thought the same thing.
