In reply to: Report to Sickbay @ Old Rag, VA G-Man That's a great route! But the crux is a biz itch. Awkward and scary moving around the arete-type thing out of the chimney and up towards the juggy holds. Oddly enough for an offwidth/chimney, my pro at the crux was very small cams. I wasn't able to pull off the crux, but at least my partner reported my pro was good :-). I wish I had balled up and lunged around that damn arete, it seemed not-impossible in retrospect. Good route. Would have been a great route except the lieback was wet that day.

The Yosemite Big walls book is full of ominous route names. Like..."Roulette", or "Get Whacked" an Eric kohl A5 . (heads up!)

Two that give me chills because they were both put up by bold guys who met with unpleasant fates a short time after the routes were established are A Mother's Lament Heaven's Door (The route kind of looks like a doorway to heavan too.)

In reply to: Whiteman Falls (and right nearby is, of course, Red Man Soars). Saw a photo in a recent magazine of the mixed route in between the two. Is the name of that route, as printed in the rag, correctly spelled as "Half Breed Hoovers"?? If so, that sucks. Brutus

I've always liked the gunks climb (5.11 X I think) called Talus Food and I remember a route in stockholm called something like Bus in Face 'cos the route overhangs the road, so if you fall from the crux at the moment the bus comes around the corner... well, you get the picture Luke
