I'm just starting to lead trad and build my rack. I have a set of stoppers and hexes and a couple of tricams and WC tech friends 3 & 3.5. I want to buy a bunch of cams at once in order to save money and my initial plan was to buy WC techs 00 to 4, which is 12 cams, and you can get it on gear express for under 5 bills. Now I'm wondering if it would be a better idea to mix it up. Maybe WC in the bigger sizes and Aliens in the small Range. What do you think is going to be a better idea? I climb J-tree a lot if that makes a difference.

Buy aliens up to orange and tech friends above there...spendy but worthwhile...can be a good idea to have the trigger wires replaced immediately on the WC before they go on ya...unless the new ones are better about that. if you have a full rack of 16+ pieces there is no need for the range of the BDs which add a lot of weight to your rack and are not as nice for aiding.

Mix it up. Get the Blue through Red Aliens, (don't bother with black unless you are aid-climbing) and then 0.5 through 3.5 Camalots or the WC equivalents.

To answewr your question...yes... Personally I like the the green-red aliens, WC friends 1.5-2.0 and Camalots 0.5-4, Keep in mind I do not alway carry that much but I like to have a mix of cams on the ol' rack

Yah, mix it up a little. I climb with a mix of Camelots, TCUs and FCUs. They're all cams, but some may specialize better than others. Find out what works best in the areas you frequent.
