I want to make a chalk bag for my boyfriend for Valentines Day. I could go out and wing it, but I thought maybe someone out there would have some suggestions/tips...if they've ever done this before. My boyfriend is a huge climber, owns a climbing gym, and OBVIOUSLY has a chalk bag. I just thought it might be something cool...i could attempt, even for a laugh...to make one specially for him...for valentines day. Im talking...liners....materials...closing mechanisms...and mind you i have NO SEWING machine...so Ill have to stitch everything by hand. which is not a big deal....but.... i want to make it unique...and functional. i have some ideas about how i want it to look, but as far as the best way to go about DOING it...im a bit clueless. help please!? ~stella :D

Take a teddy bear, turn it upside down, cut off its butt, remove the stuffing (well leave the stuffing for the head, arms and legs). Sew in a liner and presto, a chalk bag. Or you could cut off the head, remove the stuffing and add a liner. Sew the head back on so that it kinda flips forward and add some velcro to the back so that you can close it. I have no idea what I'm talking about, just a quick thought.

Besides stitching fabric super glue works wonders and saves you a bunch of time.

Kill an alligator or tiger, skin it, sew its flesh together. save the insides for din din. don't eat the stomach. remember to cook the flesh before it rots. let the skin dry from all the blood and fluids. wash it. shear a sheep, make a nice woolly inside for the chalk bag. put chalk in it.

That is actually a totally cool idea - and really funny. You could sew all sorts of cutesie stuff onto the bear, hearts and whatnot - which would just jack up the amount of sh*t your boyfriend's going to have to tolerate at the crag from his buddies. But it sure sounds like tru love stella!

rethinking it, you probably don't have enough time to go out and kill and animal, skin it, and make a chalk bag out of it... hmmm, this is a dilemma. Hey, I've got it! Go out to EMS and buy a chalk bag. Yeah, then you can save yourself all the trouble of skinning an animal, let alone sewing its still warm flesh together! You could even buy a chalk bag, and sew something onto it...something that says, "hey, i love you AND your strong climbing hands that work magic over my buttocks"

I've made four chalk bags for myself and friends. They do take a bit of time to make, with a sewing machine I can make one in about three hours. I use canvas, fleece, two gromets, and a thin nylon string, that's all. (If any of these instructions are hard to understand then you can PM me and I can send you some pics or drawings.) From the canvas I cut out the following pieces: a. 7.5"x14" b. 6" diameter circle c. 2"x4" d. 2"x4" e. 2"x12" First thing I do is I put two gromets, one inch apart, in the middle of piece A. Then I sew pieces C and D onto the end of piece A, these are the belt loops. Next I fold down the top of piece A about half and inch and sew it down with the edge on the opposite side as the belt loops. Next sew piece A together at the ends so it makes a circle. Make sure the belt loops are on the inside at this point because at the end, the bag is flipped inside out to hide the stitching. With piece E sew it around the bag starting at one gromet, going all the way around and ending at the other gromet. this is where the string goes through to sinch the bag closed. This is the hard part. Sew piece B to the bottom of the bag, make sure the stitching is on the outside. I usually have to try this a couple of times to get it perfect. Then feed the string through one gromet, into piece E and back out of the other gromet. Flip the bag inside out and see how it looks Make a fleece bag the same size as the one you just made and sew it to the inside. If you want something rigid at the top of the bag you can put a plastic loop or copper wire through the top of the bag where you made the fold. That's all if you need some help feel free to PM me

This is what you do.... get a bottle of crown royal (the one in that little purple bag) add a belt maybe sew in a liner if you want and your done. the drawstrings are already in place and he will have the sickest bag at the crag. Plus you can give him the crown royal as a extra gift hope i helped graham

I've made all of my chalk bags, 217 of them, out of very carefully woven pubic/ass hair from myself and my boyfriend. It's a great way to express yourself and it's not too time consuming. Plus they smell good. :x :D :D

This would be really cool with a stuffed "Brian the dog" from Family guy. I saw one on clearance at KB toys for $3.00 some time ago. Now they run $40-$50 on eBay. Maybe I can find a cheap Dogbert somewhere.
