i am going to make some of my own holds and i was wondering where some of the hold companies get their materials from. i only want to know where they get polyurethane resin. some companies that use urithane resin are 'cheap holds' of michigan and 'voodoo holds' of arizona. thanx

Thry bare metal foil. www.bare-metalfoil.com yopu can get colorless and odorless., Try using glass bulb to extend resin amounts and use acylic paint to change colors hope this helps Matt

If my geography is right, you are near the coast. If so, any surfboard shop should provide a lead to polyethylene resin. (aside: Ahh, the sweet scent of the surfboard glassing room. It would make a better perfume for women than the smell of pizza.)

You make surfboards with polyester resin, not polyethelene. And I don't see why common epoxy resin couldn't be used to make hold ether.

We use polyester resin from a local plastic shop but use Bondo when we're in a pinch. I'd start with the Bondo - you can get it anywhere. Adding glass beads does extend the resin and make the holds lighter but sand is alot cheaper and gives better more durable texture. Helps to add some chopped fiber glass to the smaller holds to keep them from breaking. I purchase our pigment from http://www.sinopia.com. If you find a good line on polester resin I'd like to know.
