I am not drunkenmaster.I know drunkenmaster and we are close friends but completely different people. My name is Richie and I live in west sonoma county I see you live in Davis let's get together I'd be happy to go to secrets with you.
I am not trying to keep anything secret I would love to see more people at secrets. Also telling people about the access issue at the bridge is not my attempt to keep that place secret. There are several other KILLER limestone crags not far from th bridge with no access issues and approx. 200 routes combined.Mostly sport some mixed and R.B. routes.Excellent climbing on some of the most awesome rock I've ever seen with established routes from 5.10-5.14 another place I'd gladly join you for a trip.

Richie is definitely not an idiot. He's one of the most laid-back people
I've met. But he is right about the fact that people shouldn't be spraying
about places with sensitive access issues--or places that are outright
officially off-limits to climbing. Posting about every crag to a website
that gets 50,000 hits a day is not always the best thing to do. (like, duh)

There's a mind-set I see here that thinks that contacting (harassing) land-
owners/managers is the way to get access "ironed out".
Sometimes there simply isn't anything to "iron".
Sometimes the best policy is to keep things on the down-low.

Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

Hey geek! What are you thinking putting SECRETS on the internet?
It doesn't matter if it's on the local website-no one goes on it anyway.
(and I don't think it should be on there either but it's not my website)

Don't we share enough areas on the coast with the public? WHY do you need to tell everyone about one of the last places to find solitude?
I guess it's partially my fault since I did most of the boulder problems there first and just had to tell all my buddies in town. But none of them put it on the internet or ever would -get it- it's called SECRETS! -dork.

I was there TODAY -how often do you even go there geek?!.

Wow. With any luck, someday you will look back on this and be embarrassed.

Hey Ed,

I just found out about this bouldering spot up on the Sonoma coast. This guy drunkenmonkey has been spraying about it on RC.com. The next time you're in the bay Area we should check it out. Bring some friends.

F my Joshua tree trip. I am SOOOOOOOO there, and I know a bunch of cen-tex bumblers that will wanna totaly road trip there, they throw trash every where but its ok, cuz their good folks, and I'm sure a place as popluar as this has an access fund clean-up day or something. Did I mention these guys are really good at trail enhancement... oops I mean maintenance.

sheesh

Hey Richie,

This is Aaron, you know "Dorkster". ;) The same dorkster that gave you water on St Helena when you and your partner ran out a few years back :) Just a little heads up to those who think I am spraying needlessly about an area that has problems. It sounds like Chris and others have been spreading purposeful bad information concerning the access to Natural Bridge as well as once again trying to minimize usage by other climbers while continuing to climb there themselves.

Officially: There is ZERO regulations against climbing at Natural Bridge. There isn't even an official bolting ban.

I verified this myself today while talking with a ranger at the Hayfork Forest Service Office. He did mention that he has been contacted by climbers concerning this issue and re-verified this fact just to make sure.

The bolting ban / climbing limiting is all voluntary and is not universally supported. He specifically mentioned the name "Chris" when talking about climbers he personally had talked to out at the Bridge. If it is a voluntary ban, why would Chris or anyone else still be climbing out there?

Makes you wonder doesn't it???

As for "glossing over" access issues:

In reply to:
The area still has potential, but recent access concerns/conflicts with a local indian tribe has temporarily halted development.

It is right there in the description and in addition look at the date it was added Sept 2002. That information was added after I talked to Paul out at the crag about the current issues.

As for Natural Bridge, Richie, how many of the routes have you put up? I'm curious since you are a self appointed local as well by the looks of this. Would you care to say you have developed more routes there then I have? Do you think you live closer enough to justify being a local, while I am not?

Chris didn't give me the info to Natural Bridge, I went and found out about it myself. What I chose to do with that info is my own decision. If anything I think that heightened awareness of the truth about the access issues helps an area, not hurts.

Purposefully saying negative things about an area which at this point are not the truth is nothing but localism at its finest.

Of course this is just a fun poke at you guys. I have climbed with both of you and know you guys are good guys, but this localism thing around here in NorCal is out of hand!
