From tucsonclimbers.org: ------------------------------ Windy Point will be closed to the public beginning next weekend (April 23rd) for approximately one month while the General Hitchcock Highway contractor builds a new retaining wall through the site. Windy Point will be in the area between stop lights during this time, so no traffic will be allowed to get out of the line of traffic and park. Once the wall is constructed, the area will open up to visitors, climbers, etc until it is necessary to close again, briefly, while concrete sidewalks and stamped concrete roadway is being built. This information provided as reported by Coronado National Forest.

Argh! What was wrong with the adventurous, super-narrow road that was there before? -Jeff

Actually, it turns out that the climbing around Windy Point is not closed. You just can't stop your car or park there. You can continue up and park at Geology Point Vista and walk back via a trail that goes right to Hitchcock.

The USFS is not alowing anyone in the Windy Point area and you can't park at any of the Windy Ridge pull outs and hike back. You need to go almost to the Matterhorn to park. Sorry for the confusion but various folks at the USFS are giving various answeres.

i was down there last weekend and it seems most of the mountain is closed. What i found out that mid-mountain and south (bear canyon and lower highway) seem to be the only areas not effected by the closure for either construction or fire damage. It kinda sucks :? :(
