Supposed to be heading down to Smith Rocks for the weekend - but the weather forcast is looking a bit, well, iffy . . . Fri Apr 16 Few Showers 52°/31° 30 % Sat Apr 17 Few Showers 57°/30° 30 % Sun Apr 18 Partly Cloudy 55°/34° 20 % Any local words of wisdom - would a "few showers" keep you from climbing at Smith? What are the best options. Could also use a Plan B (coming from Seattle). Squamish? Vantage? Ideas? B

I had heard that it supposedly "never rains" at Smith, I guess I have been misinformed. :x Vantage would definitely be a possibility right now.

Yeah - I've been to Vantage a few times this season - really itching to get down to Smith though. Drat. If it DOES rain at Smith - can you still climb? Are certain areas better than others. B

I was at Smith on Thursday 4/15. It was gloomy and cloudly but the rock stayed dry for the most part. I was on the crux of a climb on Koala and it started snowing. By the time I reached the top and started to set my rappel, there was about a 1/4 inch of snow on my head. It lasted only 10 minutes and the rock dried up in 20. There are lots of overhangs that are protected from most of the weather too. Sometimes you get luckly.

Oh! Any "can't miss" route Bw 11a and 12a? Yes I have the guidebook. Also the book says to watch out for drunk locals...any bad experience?

"Drunk locals" comment's slightly out of date. Redmond's changed a lot in the last 10 years. I've never had a problem. Then again, I tend to drink beer at camp, not go to local bars on weekends.... k.
