I would like to know if anyone out there has used the EOS 300D (aka Rebel), and how it compares to the 10D. I have taken pictures with the EOS 10 D, but it is quite a bit more expensive at about $1400 for just the body, whereas the 300D is about $900 w/ an 18-55mm lens. How do the two compare? Is the 10 D really worth the extra $500 + cost of lenses?

although I haven't used the 300D, I really enjoy not having the limitations that it has, and I also enjoy the command dial on the back. If my 10D broke, I would replace it with another 10D. If I had the money to by a second body, I would get the 300D.

Biff, can you give us a breif outline on the limitations between the two? Iw as looking at them earlier this year but couldn't see much that would limit the amature photographer? The professional maybe but...?

Here is a good article http://www.photo.net/...canon/10dvs300d.html The command dial is a big issue for me .. I use it all the time, and get frustrated when using small digital cameras that don't have a dial. Second is flash exposure .. espically with climbing, proper fill flash is important. The article talks about a bunch of things .. if you have any spesific questions on how these features will limit you in "amateur photographer land" post up and i will answer. It seems that OrangeOverang gets perfectly decent photos using a 300D. The price just dropped on the 10D, the difference is now about $600 Cdn (Bodies only)

I've been using a 300d (Digital Rebel) for the past 8 months now and couldn't be happier. Sure, if you've got the disposable income to spend another grand, go for a 10d, you won't be dissapointed. However if you're on a budget like myself, the 300d is fantastic! Image sharpness is stellar, even with the kit lens, which is a great starter lens (wide to slightly telephoto). It's got the same inside bits as the 10d, but a few minor features missing. Unless you're going pro, you won't miss them, and if you are going pro, why not go for the 1d instead. It's ability in low light situations is SO handy for climbing shots, not everything you climb is in proper sunlight, so the ability to crank it up to ISO800 and not see much in the way of grain, that's sweet. It's fast enough, has a good enough buffer (4 frames), and the price is VERY right for something like this. Highly recommended...I have some examples of it's quality on my website, check them out if you want real-world tests of it. None of the climbing shots are done with it though, we just started getting outside again this year so no 300d climbing shots available yet. Mike...

I really like the 300d but am waiting for prices to drop a few hundred dollars more before I purchase it.

Has anyone used Nikon's new D70 ... which was released in january to compete with Canon's Digital Rebel? I am particularly interested in this camera because it shoots much more quickly than the Rebel or its more expensive brother ... 3fps for 12 shots! :D

Neither one...the Sigma SD-10 has, by far, the highest quality images.
