I love climbing and need to get out more. Looking for anyone willing to go to the gunks during any of the upcoming weekends. I'm a teacher, so during the summer I'll have any day of the week to climb. I've got a ride, rope, and sufficient gear to set up a basic toprope anchor. I've seconded twice with a guide on 5.5 -5.7 range. Willing to second or toprope. I live in westchester right next to the tappan zee bridge if you would need a ride.

During the next few weeks I'd like to go to the Gunks. You are welcome to join me/us. I can lead, as long as you are good with belaying. Peter

If anyone is looking for someone to climb with any weekend let me know. I live close to the rocks and can be there in a flash.

i am also a teacher (orange county) and used to climb quite a bit and am looking to get back into it. i left off pretty much where you are, mostly toproping and following on about 5.7 +/-. i am getting myself back into shape right now but plan on going up to new paltz in a couple weeks. there is also a teacher at my school that hasn't climbed (in a gym only) since high school and he wants to get into it too.

To answer your question - I'm confident in my ability to belay - and I'd be more than happy to show you. It's actually reassuring to hear someone ask about another's belay abilities. It seems that many people take it for granted.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'll definitely be in contact with everyone as the partner I started with has other obligations (track coach). As you can see from the previously reply I'd like to get out there this saturday because the weather looks perfect. (I was out last sunday - disappointing - and the weather just got worse throughout the day) Just contact me if you'd like to meet up. Thanks, Lance

I have an internship ~ 1/2hr north of NYC starting mid-May and looking to get to the Gunks as much as possible. Depending on my regular partner's availability, some weekdays after work or weekends might work. Keep in touch!
