dude... chalk bags are not that expensive just buy the cheapest one you can find.... if you dont have sweaty hands you probably wont even need to carry a chalk bag. JC

go get some duct tape, then wrap it sticky side out around something cyndrical. then do another layer stick side in. pull it off, add a duct tape loop for a biner, and poof, instant chalkbag. You can add a pullstring to cinch it up if you want.

You cannot be serious. a friggin chalk bag, the gas to get to a place to climb costs more.

Sock sounds ok - might be kinda leaky though. Duct tape ok - but no fluffiness to hold the chalk in. Why not combbine the two? Spend 10 minutes (or less), save a couple of bucks, and have a distinctive chalk bag. I see no flaws in this plan whatsoever.

1) Fill a condom with chalk 2) Insert condom rectally 3) Eat massive portions of ham & bean soup 4) Climb on The beauty of this method is that your spincter muscles will keep the chack from spilling, but each time you fart on que, you'll dispense the proper amount of chalk. Should you be fortuante to meet a hott little crag-chica along the way; simply remove the condom, shake it out, invert it, put it on, and help her over the next fence!

A sock would make a mess. Socks are porous and every time it hit something there'd be poofy clouds of dust. Chalk bags are a rip-off, but they don't have any moving parts to break or perform any critical function, so once you've picked one up you won't have to replace it for awhile. Just buy a real chalk bag.

My Mom made my chalk-bag. It has good mojo. If you know someone who is handy with a sewing machine, it isn't all that complicated. If you don't.... skip lunch for a couple days and you should be able to afford one of the current pinkie-teaser ultralight sport models. Most retailers are trying to unload 'em anyway, to make room for the new giant huge monster truck chalk pyramids now used by the 'in crowd'. ---Ford---

i've actually made a couple, (i am quite handy with a sewing machine, thanks...) they are very simple. i take care of some kids several times a week, and for their birthdays i made them both chalkbags, a pink and purple fuzzy one for the 11 yr old girl (her choice of colors,) and a spongebob one (complete with super secret spy zipper pocket) for the 6 yr old boy. each one takes about 30 minutes to make, depending on how much seam ripping is involved. even if you're not handy with a sewing machine, a hand sewn one would take an hour or two, even for a beginner with a needle and thread. oerfect road trip project. for when someone else is driving, of course. lemme know if i can help...i didn't use a pattern, but i could make one up...i have a sugar jar in the kitchen that is the perfect size, and i basically just shape it after that. our i could make up a pattern for you.

Well, then I'm guessin' condoms and Crown Royal are out...     If you really are hard up for ca$h, you could wade into {COMMUNITY} and sell your soul. There are a large number of soulless folks that hang out in there, and if your soul is well cared for, polished, and not too vibrantly colored, it should sell quickly... Come to think of it, there are even a few guys (and Amber) that seem to collect souls!

In reply to: im 13 and im very low on cash. that is why i wanted to know if i could use a sock as a temporary chalk bag. I just don't think it'd be the best idea. It would leak, and what would you attach to it to attach it to youself with? Buying one isn't THAT necessary, I'm just impatient and can't sew and just assume throw down the few bucks. But sewing one (not out of socks) is ok too. Try making one like veganboyjosh's, or have your mom sew one. Don't forget loops to slide a belt (a shoelace works ok) or a biner through. Or... got any sacrificial handpuppets? :P

When you do get your chalk bag keep your sock and 1/4 fill it with loose chalk. Pack it in real tight and tie it off. Now you have a nice new chalk ball for the price of loose chalk that will last longer than the chalk on its own! Nick.

FWIW: I tend to mock the chalk bag threads, because I have yet to ever use chalk. Actually, I did try it once at the insistance of a former partner, but I hated it -- so for me, it's the friction of flesh on stone!
