Haven't got all the details yet, but looks like a 20 yr old climber was 30 foot up without a rope at Moss Ledges, and he slipped on a wet rock. He fell 30 feet into the river, suffering broken arm/legs, head injuries, internal injuries. Unknow if he was alone, but by the time the paramedics arrives, he was in bad shape and didn't survive to make the trip to the hospital.

VERY SAD. I wonder if this was a an actual rock climber or just another person who decided that "hiking" was just too easy. The media just loves to say it was a "climber" when the person actually has no climbing experience at all. Regardless, its a sad day when ANYONE dies. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

Acording to the Utah press there was two guys free climbing and one slipped and fell into a river, hit his head and died from a head injury. he only fell 15 ft. I just started to wear my helmet on ALL climbs, where I only used to wear it on sketchy areas, this is a good example for us all to learn by. he was ONLY 21!!

As is typical of the media, even the utah media, the difference between 'free climbing' and 'soloing' becomes apparent again. Not that it diminishes the tradgedy at all, but once again it seems that inexperienced, ropeless climbers bring the attention on the "dangerous" sport of climbing. Free climbing; using ropes, protection, and a competent belayer, most likely would have avoided this 'soloing' tradgedy.
Unfourtunately, in our area, most of the recent "climbing" fatalities have involved ropeless "climbers", most likely not really climbers, but rather people scrambling on exposed crags who shouldn't be
I am truly sorry to hear about another tragic death.
