Say it Ain't So!!! I've just heard that Stalagasaurus on Ao Tonsai has lost part/all of the stalactite. :( Can anyone verify whether this is true..? I'd really like to see pictures of the new configuration, and any info on new grading if available.. Thanxabunch

I was just cver there and climbed stalag about 10 days ago or so. A few days beforehand a part of the upper stalag broke off and fell. This didn't change the grade...it's still very easy...9+ or so. As of 5/8/04 (the last day I climbed in ton sai), everything looked the same way as it did when I climbed it. Hope this helps. --Brent

well the whole stalactite is still there - it's just lying on the beach below the climb now. i'm at Tonsai, climbed it a few weeks before it came off, have seen the new scars with my own eyes and have talked to the woman who was on the climb when it fell. she was just about off the stalactite and had clipped the bolt just to the right at the top when it broke so she was fine (just shaken up). just as lucky was her belayer - he was far back enough to not get squashed. so the so the only 'easy' climb on the Tonsai roof is now arguably a 7a+ -but that's not set in stone so to speak.
