Good videos/DVDs?

I just started climbing a couple of months ago and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I have a great gym with helpful people and a good climbing partner, but I'd like to watch the pros do it to glean some techniques and just see some awesome climbing. :) So...does anyone have a suggestion as to which videos are the best? Instructional or entertainment, either will work. I've searched all over the web (to the best of my ability, anyway) and haven't come up with many reviews.

Thanks!

uh well youre in luck i own about 20 videos! I have all the masters of stone, tons of great bouldering flicks Eos 2 dreamtime, The road, the life, Pilgrimage, Tour de blocs, Uncommon ground, Auto Route, Inertai 1 and 2, try hard stone love, etc.... it all kinda depends on what you want, For an all around video with good "old school peeps" i would go with any masters of stone, Any of the newer flicks are great, especially if you are into Bouldring etc..... check out Autoroute, or the Road..... if you can search the web there are a lot of trailers for all these films just check them out!

I thought that doseage was put together well...inertia 1 was good but 2 was bad. rampage was ok and front range freaks was ok. check out bigups productions, might be bigups.com but not sure.

always and i do mean always start with rampage. that is if you are a boulderer. chris sharma at his best, very inspiring. then anything else is good. i jsut spent 200$$$ on climbing dvds. i got masters of stone 5, auto route, pilgramage, sessions, frequent flyers, and front range freaks. i already have some others. here are my top picks:

1. rampage
2. frequent flyers
3. pilgrimage
4. auto route and uncommon ground
5. sessions
6. dosage vol. 1
7. the life
8. front range freaks

then the rest fallow

!!!!!oh...... never get inertia 1 or 2. they suck hard. a bunch of crap editing to constant acid punk. not that i dont like punk, its that i just dont want to be hit over the head with it. and the footage sux.

I knew as soon as i brought up Inertai, peeps would start going off on how they suck, they are not the best and they are not the worst. The worst film is Boulder by udo neuman, for like 15 min all you see is Him showing like 50 font cicuit problems from #1 to #???, and the music during this section is like deranged circus music or some shizza! Ok enough on that flick My tops are

1. Eos 2 Dreamtime (fred Nicole at the mmax in Australia)
2. Doage Vol1( WHen is Vol 2, comin out at Josh?)
3. Tour De blocs
4. Pilgrimage
5. AutoRoute
6. The Road
7. Sessions
8.Frequent Flyers
9.The Real Thing
10. Rampage (a little too outdated for me, but awesome flick)
11. Free Hueco
AND ALL the masters of Stone are great, for a kinda Intor to the Sport!

I only have a few climbing vids. Beyond Gravity is a cool flick too, but not really instructional in any way. Master of Stone V is cool. I very much like parts of Front Range Freaks - Timmy O'Neil's Urban Ape, Heidi Wertz on the Wasp, and of course Derek Hersey.

I'd have to agree that Inertia 1 and 2 blow. Couldn't even finish watching them they suck so bad.

Dave...

P.S. If you want instruction type stuff... I'd say watch other people climb stuff you are climbing.

My List

1. Pilgramage-A lot of amazing bouldering at an amazing location. Everything about this film is well done.
2 (Tie) The Road-This was my first DVD and I've probably watched it over 30 times by now. Mike Call does a great job, and presents alot of cool areas with alot of awesome Boulderers.
Dosage-Takes you all around the world and shows some ground breaking sends. This is mostly a Bouldering flick, but shows Sharma's send of Realization
4-Front Range Freaks- Really cool. Shows some old footage of the late great soloist Derek Hersey. Shows alot of cool stuff.

Hope this helps...

The Nose in a Day - Lynn Hill
Not that we can really learn from this -- she's such an extraordinary climber that it may be many years before we see another like her -- but it's fascinating to watch THE BEST at work!

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone, very helpful. Now where's the best place to grab these videos? I guess that eBay would be a good start, since they probably don't carry them in Best Buys or Targets...

Rampage is an amazing movie (Chris Sharma). That's my top pick for pure climbing vid.

That said Front Range Freaks is the coolest movie ever. Its not all just climbing. They have a feature about this builderer who climbs a 12 story dorm and all this other crazy sh*t. They also have a tribute to Derek Hearsy. SOOO much fun to watch.

I hope the original poster does not get mad at me jumping his thread, I do not want to start a new one if the subject is already open.

I own autoroute, dosage vol. 1, and frequent flyers, have seen front range freaks. I do not know if the road is good.

Of the new movies out there, what are your comments on sessions by big up, dosage vol. 2 by big up too, big stone by bomb proof, pro tips vol. 1 by MC?

I f I were to buy three videos in one push, what would you reccomend?
I was thinking dosage vol. 2, rampage even if it is old, and something else of the list in here.
http://www.justpushplay.com/rocldvd.html

Could I have your comments please.

Also, soes anyone know were to find reviews of climbing videos?

Thanks.

Uncommon Ground, Big Stone, Ascending Rythum, Beyond Gravity are all awesome.

I have the Inertia videos too and although the first one does bite, the second one is pretty good. Shows some great climbs, Action Direct, Book Of Hate (this one will blow you away, best climbing clip I've ever seen).

Note: Stupid spell check doesn't work.

Hey . . . what about West Coast Pimp? Its pretty old school, but I like certian parts of it alot. Rampage is my favorite though, by far. If you're looking for climbing advice, Pro Tips is a good one to get. It's like Dosage in that it was compiled from ClimbX Media clips before they went off-line. BigUP productions has a website where you can buy many of these and more. Or just do a Google search. -K

Excellent recommendations! Thanks a lot all. :D

Anyone know of a good UK based online retailer that sells some of these videos/DVDs?
