Boulder authorities looking at human skeleton found near climbing area

BOULDER - Boulder authorities recovered a human skeleton near the Flatirons in Boulder County on Monday.

A hiker made the discovery near a climbing area, just beyond Chautauqua Park, on May 6.

On Monday, investigators from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office removed the remains, and turned them over to the county coroner to try to determine the identity and cause of death.

My guess is the Boulder PD is going to be pretty embarrassed when they find out it wasn't a skeleton... that Callista Flockhart just decided to travel to CO to try some rockclimbing. :wink:

Authorities believe that the skeleton has been in situ for about 10 to 15 years. The area was popular with sport climbers in the early 90s. Given the extreme dieting that was popular at the time to improve performance, there is speculation that it may be the skeleton of a particularly emaciated sport climber who simply collapsed/died of malnutrition.
