I keep hearing of four aiders, and do to my lack of experience can not imagine a situation (short of dropping two) where I would need four. Please explain.

You use them in pairs. Two attached to one daisey; two attached to the other daisey.

Thanks Ed, but still why would you want them, if they are attached in pairs to seperate the daiseys the only gain seems you would have more steps to choose from. Do you use one seperately from the daisey at times? Do you use four aiders?

The gain is that you can spread your legs apart. In corners, flares, coming out from a roof, it is more awkward (and less stable) to have both feet in the same aider. Are 4 worth it, hard to say.

I use only two as a pair. I hang from my daisy to move the pair of aiders up. This gives me stability while only using 2. It has different tradeoffs (the aiders are not permently attached--they can be dropped). Do some searching if you are really interested in this.

I can't believe you got up Zodiac and you have to ask that question. I usually use two, but on overhanging stuff, you have to back step to reach up high sometimes, and having that extra aider is nice. It is more crap, but I wasn't able to do that overhanging stuff with only 2 aiders.

I have always used them in pairs. Easier to maintain balance and much more comfortable. I've also found that this is at least part of the reason I move so slow. It's too comfortable and more often than not I should be moving rather than standing. There are situations where using them in pairs is a good choice, but for purposes of improving my speed and reducing my fustercluck I'm trying to switch to using one aider per daisey.

So the real advantage is being able to get your foot into a unweighted aider and having a back up when it gets really crazy. Seems in most situations that a good pair of aiders (like Yates Big Wall Ladder) should cover it.

You should, unless you're a big, uncoordinated bozo like me.

Two nice things about using 4 aiders vrs only 2 or 3.

1st- Your feet stay at the same level and it is easier to stand straight legged with your knees locked, using less energy.

2nd- Less clipping things up and off, back and forth. 1 clip per piece...done.

Drawbacks- weight and bulk and clusterfckage

Sorry to be so naive, I thought the A2 rating on the Zodiac ment you needed two aiders. Next time I'm out I will give the four aiders a shot. Thanks for the info.

Heck, if you're moving fast enough and comfortably enough with two, screw using four! I find it akward to do some steep moves, or stuff in a corner if I'm using two, but that's because I haven't had much practice over-coming those technique obstacles. If you made it up Zodiac leading with two, then I'd stick with it.
