does anybody know fairly accurately what the friction constant is between smooth granite and aluminium???

the coefficient of friction which i assume you are referring to will vary depending on both the aluminium and the granite, is the granite a uniform roughness?

Also are you asking about the coefficient of static or dynamic friction?

Yup, I'm reffering to the friction coeffitient ( I learnt it in hebrew so I assumed it was called the constant in English).

I am talking about the smoothest possible granite situation... ie uniform friction...smooth granite... and I would like to know both the static and Dynamic coefficient although the static coef. is what I'm most interested in...

Check out the Wild Country Cam book. I think they talk about it in there.

Thanks, but they don't quite have what I want... What they have is the Maximum degree between the camming force... I'm looking for the scalar constant that every surface has that defines the force of friction it will create in relation to the Normal.

Found it...

(in case anyone wants to know) Although it varies from rock to rock...they say that the general minimum is about 0.3. ( I would have thaught it would be at least 0.5) Wow, its really nothing....

thanks again
