right now nothing other than protein shakes after training and every now and again some pro-endorphin (amazing) when I need a kick. I have been thinking about loading with Creatine as I embark on a power phase of training but everyone is saying no in regards to climbing (strength to weight ratio). I am trying to get more into aid and do more alpine routes so not sure just how important this ratio is as I just want power when I need it on top of a high level of endurance. Not much of an answer, more of another question.

you mean Myostatin blocker? I have never heard of a binder, but a myostatin blockers will help you gain muscle mass too. And its good for the heart.

before taking any supplement, read what effects they are going to have on your bady. creatine for example draws fluids into you muscles, giving them size. it will help you to get larger but not nessasarily stronger. glutimine helps your muscles recover after a work out and quite often this supplement is found in protien mixes. however some peoples bodies already produce plenty of these things and anything that they take in is just wasted away. you can learn about alot of these supplements in muscle and fitness or any other of the fitness mags. or better yet at the library. dont base you diet on what you read posted in here.

Protein shakes after each time i climb(or lift weights) and one each morning, then after working out 3.5 MG of creatine and 1500MG of glucosomine(for joints, my joints hurt when i started climbing) and 500 mcg of calcium to help my bones, i doubt it does anything for climbing. But mostly just stick to taking protein, its a good idea to mix in 2 table spoons of peanut butter and use milk instead of water, it will give you more effcient amino acids to use up the protein.

Hi Adam, Why do you want to use these? For recovery? For more mass? Bigger muscles don’t make you stronger. Being able to recruit the muscle you have makes you stronger. This is about making more neural connections. More muscle makes you heavier and lowers your power to weight ratio. Recruitment training is about lifting heavy (90% of 1RM) without going to failure: 3-5 reps are all that is needed for 3 sets. This trains and builds the neural connections. You only need supplements for hypertrophy. But that’s not what you need for rock climbing. Regards, Kim

If my daily protein is lacking, I take a shake. (I use Slim Fast, it's cheaper than Muscle Gain Bullcrap Stacker Load). I'd advise against creatine for climbing, same as with anything that will allow you to bulk up (btw: carnitine has been proven ineffectual). Lets say creatine works for you and you get much bigger and much stronger. Well you now weigh more and your joints are no stronger. For climbing, it is far better to earn your strength. Look at Suzuki, my grandmother could probably beat him in an arm wrestling match, yet he's climbed harder cracks than most of us dream. It's not the raw muscle. I've done lots of bicycle stage races, I find that with L-glutamine (endurox R4 or can be bought separately) I can get up and be ready to race the next day. You never wake up fresh, you just aren't as beat. For climbing, eat well, rest well, and follow sound training principles. This will keep your body able to improve the technique necessary to climb harder stuff. Damn I wish there was a magic pill.

I have asked numerous physicians and the collective answers seems to be that the benefit of many herbal "supplements" and "vitamins" is next to none...besides deflating your wallet. Focus on core body exercises...pushups, situps, pullups, stretching, aerobic exercises. Take some anti-inflammetory medicines for soreness and pain due to overuse. However, I take a multivitamin, vitamin-e, calcium/magnesium, and ginseng. Looking into gingko and glucosumine, however the benefits of these two are perceptionary at best. Get warm up well, get good rest in between, ice, and stop cracking your knuckles! You won't get arthritis, however cracking may lead to weakened grip and joints. Keep your tendons strong and healthy. Hope that helps. Oh, and isn't the point of climbing not to get too much bulk?

Bratwurst and Beer! I find that my mood gets elevated and thus performance goes up. I learned this while a student at UW-Madison. It is tried and true. Pizza and Beer also works but not quite as well.

When I find that my joints are burning really bad, I generally apply a minimal amount of saliva to the area in question.

I did for a while years ago. Tried all different combos along with a very focused training program and diet. After a few years I stopped taking using supplements and simply focused on good diet (well rounded, whole foods, etc...) and found that good diet worked better. IMHO all the supplements are a lot of hype and a waste of money. Like climbing, and weight training, there is no short cut to good nutrition.
