Bare feet or Tennies. Mostly because I never wear many other shoes. I've found that shoe rubber grips the line really well, sometimes to the point of catching when you don't want it to, and bare skin sometimes slides accidentally, but you can feel the line a lot better. There's pros and cons to both methods.

After breaking my little toe for the second time (keeps getting hung up on the line) I resorted to old climbing shoes or other shoes with thin soles. Thick socks also keep my little piggy out of harms way pretty well and allow for more sensitivity than shoes.

I like bare feet because I feel like I can grip the line, where as with shoes I just hope i get a good balanced placement and cant correct it as easily.

I wear Chaco's with the dot rubber. The flat platform of the sandle makes it way easier to do turns and protects my feet when doing airs. They are not very sensitive but that doesn't seem to be a problem when freestyling. Skate shoes with a flat tread and a flat sole is another option. The indoor soccer shoe by Adidas looks like it would work well. Make sure you size them a little tighter than normal. Good luck. :)

uh i use my vans most of the time and adidas shoes b/c they re flat but i also tried goin barefoot a few times and at first i didnt like it but it works also

I wear Globe skate shoes. A little less bulky than the standard skate shoe. I suppose it also depends on what you plan on doing. For straight walking bare feet would be the way to go but if you plan on pushing your self w/ jumps, multi turns and low line tricks you might as well start w/ shoes now and get comfortable w/ them. Vans makes a skate shoe w/ super thin soles. Those would be good too.

I prefer slacklining with really worn down Pumas. Worn down to the point where there aren't any treads left. When I step down on the slackline, the shoes bend parallel to the slackline so I can kinda grip the line. It also makes turns a lot easier.

I go barefoot, i seem to be able to get a better feel for the line. That and w/shoes, i would be affraid of it gripping when i dont want it to and then all of a sudden i have a broken ankle. So yea, thats the main reasons that i dont wear shoes when on the line.

after that i am usually wearing just some stock flip flops believe it or not
converse all stars are also good
but yes, another one for the barefootageness

I like to go barefoot, but some shoes work well. Any shoe that has the dot rubber, once it's worn down a bit. The 5.10 guide almightys worked awsome but they don't make them anymore.

I prefer my now treadless merrell ventilator mocs - so worn out and flimsy they have good sensitivity but still protect my weak seeming arches which ache after i slack barefoot

i like to wear my teva watershoes bc my feet always hurt real bad when i go barefott but with them i can still stay on well and without the pain

but in the winter I like surf/water shoes. they are not overly warm, but grip way better than street shoes.

chacos. I started barefoot, and didn't do it for a while, and now chacos are the best for me. with the smoother colorado bottom, they move nicely on the line, and provide a nice stable platform to balance on. I think it is kind of cheating, but i have fun doing it, so who cares?
anyways, chacos are the way to go.

I know this is an old thread, but I just made some shoes specifically for slacklining and thought I would share.
Here's a picture:
They're made all the way around with leather but I sewed some old bicycle innertubing onto the bottom for a little more traction. They work amazingly well. It feels nearly the same as being barefoot, but warmer.
If anyone knows how to sew, they're pretty simple to make. And if you need a pattern, I could give you mine.

adidas rod lavers. they are tennis shoes, and come out of the box with flat soles. sometimes hard to find, easier to get your hands on a pair in the summertime i've found.

I go barefoot. Unless its really cold and then I wear my tennies, but my dad always wears a pair of old flat climbing shoes (slippers). I've never really liked it but he swears by it.
