I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for...where do many of you buy your gear if you do it online? The shops around here don't sell Wild Country and I wanna buy my BF something from there. Thanks!

I'll second Mountain Gear. They're probably my favorite online store for gear.

I'll also add:
Shoreline Mountain Products
Backcountry Gear

there's others, of course, but these are the major ones.

My circuit is exactly the same. The only one I would add is www.northernmountainsupply.com. I've ordered from all of these and never had any problems.

I've bought from most of the sites listed. I would say the more important question is, when you do have a problem how quickly and efficiently does the online retailer deal with it? I had a hell of a time with an online snow gear retailer a few years ago. It really turned me off on buying from them. A bunch of imcompetent stoned idiots running that site. No wonder they are gone.

Mountain Gear has always been very efficient in handling any problems i've had. They've even conference called Yates one or two times for me to answer my questions. Returns/exchanges are easy and they'll do just about anything for ya if you call them on the phone.

i've had similar experiences with Shoreline and Backcountry Gear.

Mountain Equipment Co-Op (www.mec.ca) They have good prices and it is always nice to buy things that look more expensive than they are due to the conversion from CA$ to US$. :) You do have to become a member of their co-op, but it's like $5 canadian (works out to $3.80 us) for a lifetime membership.

if you want to REALLY put to good use, try using the ads here on rockclimbing.com...if you click the mountaingear ad then the site gets a percentage of your purchase (versus if you just type in mgear.com). Its jsut a really easy way to support the site and our advertisers as this site is paid for primarily by those advertisers. Show them where to put their money - use the rc.com ad links (they have a different code in the link that lets them know where you came from so that we get paid)

most of the sites Kristin and others have mentioned advertise with us so surf around a little bit and look at the ads ;)

rock on!!

I'm a big fan of all of these listed above. The one thing I'd add is killerdeals.com, it's associated with Northern Mountain Supply.

Happy money spending day,

I had problems with Ultimate Adventure Gear also known as K&R Gear. I ordered some Kong lockers. I know that they are not the most available biners but it took them almost two months for them to get to me. I tried contacting them by phone, and three different e-mail adresses many times. My calls were never returned and my e-mails never replied to. Then one day out of the blue my biners arived.

good peeps, its nice to support the mom and pop gear shop.

The other day, I ordered two pair of identical climbing shoes from Northern Mountain Supply (NMS). The website let me order both pair. After all was said and done, I get an email the next day saying that they only had one pair instead of two. They shipped one pair and said it would take 7 days to get them. As far as I'm concerned, if they advertise they have the items, then I pay for them, they should ship them. If their website is faulty, they need to correct it; otherwise, I begin to wonder about the site in general, including the security of my credit card. I've sent them two emails with no response.

This wouldn't be an issue except that early last year the same thing happened to me when I ordered two pair of identical Goretex shell pants from NMS. Except that time, I never got an email, they just shipped one pair. Afterward, I called and attempted to resolve the issue but they would never let me speak to the "manager". Finally, after I threatened to post my dissatisfaction on the internet, they responded, and resolved the problem to my satisfaction.

I'm anxious to see how this recent issue plays out. I'll post upon resolution.

BTW: The reason I always order two identical items is because usually get it for both my wife and I and we wear about the same size shoes, etc.

I've never had problems with them, but then again, I've only ordered from them a couple of times. I'll be waiting to see what happens. Hope it all turns out.

Everything worked out good. Northern Mountain Supply fixed it to my satisfaction. I would suggest; however, that instead of ordering online, use their 1-800 number. Twice I have ordered two of something, only to find out later they had only one of the item. At least by calling, the sales rep will be able to tell you whether they really have the item or not. Probably just a flaw in their website.

Anyway, I would order from them again.

When you called and talked to someone, did you mention the problems you've had with ordering from their website? If so, what'd they say about it?

I never called them. We only communicated through email. I initially informed them of the problem with the website, but we never discussed it after that. After my "incident", I'm sure they are aware of the problem.
