I was wondering if anyone had any information on some good sites for beginners. I'm just looking to read up on as much info as I can to learn the basics and research good climbs to learn on.

My advice to you would be to hook up with a friend who knows what there doing that will take you out and teach you. Books are good and you can read a lot and get better understanding, but nothing will teach you like hands on climbing.

Just a suggestion.... Dont rely on the internet for beginner information. There are some really good books to read on the market. Go to your local gym (outdoor club) and take some lessons. Try and hook up with some more experienced folks and go climb with them. Meet some new people and get to climb as well :)

I think your on that site right now. RC.com has a lot of information that you can scan from the posts. Also, if you have a question, just post it here. As for climbs to learn on, there is a whole section devoted to climbing areas and routes.

A couple ideas for where to meet up with climbers who can teach you the ropes:

1. A climbing club in your area, which you can probably find in Google
2. A local climbing gym

I have to reiterate what everyone else has said...the best way to learn is from an experienced person.

If you do want to read up on some basis info, Falcon Press writes good how to climbing books and "Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills" is the best book out there IMHO.

Read through the FAQs at the top of this forum. Buy books. Search Amazon with keyword "climbing"
