In reply to: Tim--It was nice catching up with you again and finally getting to meet your wife. Wish you could have stuck around for the evening festivities and the climbing on Sunday. --Kim It was fun running into you again, too. Marketa broke out the textbooks and was reading all the way to the restaurant. She had a full day of studying on Sunday.

My partner just bailed on doing the Petit with me on Thurs. So that means no bivy Wed night and no alpine on Thurs. This blows. Anyway, anyone want to climb after work on Wed or Thurs? Or is anyone with experience interested in doing something alpiney on Thurs? We don't necessarily have to do the Petit. Just something moderate within that grade or easier.

Tracy, I would have taken you up on the Petit if I'd known earlier. I just committed to starting a new project on Wednesay and Thursday. I had originally planned on climbing Wednesday. It would have been fun to chase Frank & Ron up the Petit! Jeff

Jeff Hello my blood brother! :D I was actually just about to PM you to see if you were interested in hitting the Park or going back to Shelf on Thurs. I may be at Shelf again this weekend. Next week I'd take a day off to climb if I end up working this Thurs due to lack of partners.

Tracy, After considerable scrubbing I managed to get down to a pretty insignificant scrape on my knee. Its amazing how much blood that little nick left on the rock :? I'd come down to Shelf this weekend for some more controlled abrasion! Next week I will have Monday open for sure and after that I'd have do some planning. Jeff

Eldo was nice today. No one was hogging routes at all! :) Super sweet day. I wasn't able to bag Calypso but I did re-do the bomb....man I wish I could have found a way to link those first few moves on Calypso - maybe next time. If I hadn't been on lead - NO BIGGIE but it was a deck for sure if I didn't get it....anyone have any advice? I was doing the 5 start with the flake on the left. Looks like a great route can't wait to bag it. JD

I normally don't place a piece until after I've moved right due to rope drag. But I would not recommend doing this unless you feel solid. More accidents occur on Calypso than any other route in the park. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to that funky start. You'll get it. It's definitely a stiff 5.6. If you haven't done so already, you should lead Wind Ridge. I've only lead the 5.8 variation on P1. Maybe you can have someone lead that for you and you can enjoy the upper pitch.

Man, quite a lightning show getting back to Denver at 5:00. Got a little hail, too. I could see people up at the Golden Cliffs as lightning was striking less than a quarter mile up CCC. Nutso. Hey Jeff Bevin. I just saw your pictures of Castleton Tower on climbingmoab. My friend Scott had some pics of the same place he showed me today. Looks like a neat area.

Tim, Castleton is one of those features that anyone who is in the area and has the ability, should climb, and would likely want to once they saw it. I've climbed it several times and see several more ascents of it in the future. Jeff

JD Like Tracy said, just feel solid, its a classic slab start, the left start is secure just move to the right pretty quickly or you will miss the ledge, bring lots of slings

After a whirlwind trip in the east I am back and looking for partners. I'm off just Sunday this weekend and was looking to head to Devil's Head. I know the are pretty well now and have a couple of areas there I haven't climbed at. Routes go from 5.7-5.12+++. I would be happy to guide some people around there and lead routes up to 5.12. It's a great spot and as mbg could testify, we might be the only people climbing back there. Even on a Sunday. I also heard some talk of Shelf road on this site. I might be willing to drive downt there for a day if some people are going to be down there.

Kyle, I led that 11a/b at the BRC last night. It's just as much fun on lead. There are a couple of nice routes on the overhang now too. J

Anyone free after work tomorrow? I get out at 4:00 and I'm about 15 minutes from Golden. Will climb anything!!!!!!!!! Also. . .looking at going up Hallets on Sunday. My partner leads in the 9/10 alpine range. I'm in the 7/8 alpine lead range. Would like to do a route in which we can swing leads on. The Great Dihedral and Culp Bossier come to mind right away. What route on Hallets is most asthetic and enjoyable for our range of climbing? We want to go out with a route in mind and a backup should our first choice be taken. Thanks!
