Where is Fairborn, Ohio? If it is close enough I would love to help out. It it always great to find a new area in this vast mountainous land we call Ohio.

I lived In Fairborn for 15 years ('70-'85) and didn't even know wat a carabiner was. Glad you've got your own area.

Um, I grew up in the Beavercreek/Fairborn/Dayton area -- lived there the better part of 30 years -- and the only "cliffs" around are at John Bryan SP, Clifton Gorge, and Glenn Helen. Where exactly is this "new crag" supposed to be?

Calling this area a "crag" would definitely be a stretch. I think the climbs are only 30 feet or so, top rope only. And, from pictures I've seen, the rock looks pretty bad. (see the pictures in the media section of the OCA site: http://ohioclimbers.org/...task=show&mediaid=41) But hey, its something. The location is at the new Oaks Reserve Park (but not being from the area I don't know where exactly that is).

those pics look pretty bad.. ugh..

I grew up in ohio, and started climbing short before I left ohio. But the rock is actually pretty cool. It's very similiar to Red River gorge.. Most of it doesn't get climbed that much so it's pretty dirty.. and yes. most are very short.. 30 feet and less.

but there was an area in springfield that was supposed to be pretty good, but on private property. It got closed when some dumb rappeller was teaching other people how to rappel and walked off the cliff.

Cause we get to see more political comercials than ANYONE!

And hey, its not that bad. If I drive like the wind I can be at the New in a little over 4 hours from my driveway (Seneca and the Red are 5 1/2).

I posted the generic information that can be accessed via the ohioclimbers.org page(s).. this was to stress that yes. this is a new
official area.

As opposed to the populace of Ohio, that thinks that they can just climb anywhere and have it assimilated by other than official legal means.

Yes, this is a short cliff line, the rock is similar to that of John Bryant or the geographic area.

However, It is New and Official. :)

Arizona is a completely beautiful state with very diverse natural beauty so I can see where you are coming from being that I lived in Mesa for several years before moving back to the Buckeye. But Phoenix, that city is the social toilet of the entire SW. It's as bad as LA interms of crime and urban chaos and for me being just a 45 min dirive from unique and beautiful climbing venues like Atlantis and Devil's Canyon was not worth the ridiculously high cost of living, traffic riviling Chiacago, more illegal aliens then leagal citizens, an over abundance of Mormons, streets packed with suicidal 80 year old's driving RV's when they should'nt even be on a bicycle and a county Sherrif who models his corrections techniques after Adolph Hitler.

So we Ohioans may not have much climbing locally, but we don't have all that crap either, ,LOL.

Now that being said, if I could afford it, or find work in the Mountains up by Flag or Prescott, down by Sierra Vista or anywhere else in the hills of the Zona i'd move back tomarrow...

I NEED A CLIMBING HUMAN IN OHIO TO ROCK CRAWL WITH BYE THE WAY SO ALL YOU OHIO CLIMBER NEED TO EMAIL ME RIGHT NOW!!!
