Hi,

I was at the Trapps a couple months or so ago for the first time. We're thinking of going back and would like to bring the pup. I have the literature from the booth at the parking lot, and it doesn't say yay or nay about dogs. I didn't see any dogs there, and given how friendly the approach is... I wondered if there are no dogs signs posted that I overlooked.

Thanks,
Jen

The Mohonk Preserve (?) requests that all dogs be leashed.
As to whether you leash your dog is up to you, since only about one quarter of the users with dogs obey that rule.
There might be a couple places that your dog will have difficulty navigating, but I guess it depends on his/her familiarity with rock-jumping.

Here's the rules:

1 - All dogs must remain leashed at all times.
2 - All dogs must remain attended at all times.

What it means: If you're multi-pitch climbing (and why else would you come to the Gunks?) you should leave the pup at home. Sorry! :(

Please leave your dog home.

I'm sure it's a lovely dog, and very well-behaved. I'm guessing that it doesn't crap on the trail. I'd hazard that it won't growl at or menace people that have to pass it on the pathway. And, I'm positive that doesn't bark incessantly when you're on the crag. However, these aren't good reasons, for most people.

Instead, I'm asking you to leave the dog home because the rules say:

1) Dogs must remain on a leash.
2) Dogs must be attended at all times.

If you're on multipitch, the dog isn't attended.

not all dogs poop on trail, mine walks 3-4 feet off trail even when we are just walking in the park.

but unless you are all top-roping at the gunks leave the pooch at home,
