Hey, I'm from Columbia and would like to go to the boulder comp at Petra this fall. Does anyone know when it is? Thanks.

Quickest way to get a for sure answer is to give them a call (417) 866-3308 They also are having their "Crag Cleanup" soon which is a big event. Maybe not compeition but a lot of climbers getting together.

Sam's Throne unless they've changed their plans. I think it was going on soon, a few weeks or within the next month or so.

that's cool. the only time i've been there was last march, and the camping area had TONS of trash that people had left there. if it's improved since then, that's really sweet. i've been climbing at cave creek and hcr recently, so i haven't been keeping up on the situation at Sam's, although I would like to see that place stay clean and accessible. I'd sure be there cleaning it up if I could...hmm, actually do you know the date for the clean-up? maybe I'll try and make it down.

Sorry, no. I don't know the actual date on it. Call 'em, they open at 2pm on weekdays.

i have never seen sams trashed and would never get even close to calling it a garbage dump. you are sending a wrong message here. sams is in need of some trail work etc., but as far as trash is concearned - it is pristine. the camp area does get some trash build up at times, but we clean up before we leave...even if it is not our trash...when you say dump, i think of places like henley. NOW...do you want people thinking that sams is like that place. anyway...are you going to HCR over the weekend of the 29th? there is the annual climbers rendezvous...slide shows, gear raffle, shoe demo...GREAT climbing and lots of fun. we have a group of 8 from warrensburg going, and i think a group of 4 from jeff city.

i was at sams the same time you were in march...and i know what trash you were talking about...right when you pull into the camp area. that was left behind by some locals who pulled in one night around 11 o'clock, got drunk, smoked some pot, camped, and split leaving their trash. anyway, enough of the trash talk.

Update: The Petra Crag Cleanup is on Oct 16 and it is NOT at Sam's Throne (they changed it to nearby though). I think they wanted everyone down there by 9:30am. It is at stackrock, which about 30 minutes from Mt Judea. I'll try and post directions, but if you need them just meet up at Petra before hand and pick up the driving direction sheets from them. They also are having a caravan so you can follow someone else down if you wish.
