My 7 year old is taking an interest in climbing this fall. I want to get her a climbing video. What I think would be good is a video that has a lot of women in it with a focus on movement instead of aggro. An instructional one would be OK as long as it focuses on technique and not gear and protocol. She doesn't need to worry about that stuff. I *think* she needs to see more expert climbers smoothly doing their thing. I'm looking for a video to stir her imagination. Don't care if its sport, bouldering, tradm what have you as long as it has a lot of movement it, the dance of climbing. And I am 100% ignorant of any climbing video less than 10 years old, swear to god. Not a single one. My favorite old school was the one about Isabel Patassier, ohmygod! Burnt my brain it did and I have it on tape, but I done played it out, know what I mean. It's tool old to catch her eye anyway. What say you? Thanks DMT

Ascending Rhythm, in Yosemite with Ron Kauk. Mine's in the mail, so I'm only going on secondhand knowledge, but I have to say I have heard amazing things about it. Worth checking out. Sounds exactly what you're looking for. And it's not bouldering. (PS-- It's being reissued right now-- basically this week-- so it may take a couple of weeks to get ahold of.)

The only one I saw was Moving Over Stone made back in 1988. It features Lynn Hill and Bobbi Bensman, and it focuses on teaching movement. I like it a lot. But maybe '88 is too old for you?

I like Uncommon Ground, but that may be because i am from the Northeast and it is about Northeast climbing. If you are looking for a focus on women check some through some of the women climbing organizations like She Climbs, Chicks with Picks, or She Sends magazine. Although it is changing a little, unfortunately, our sport is still dominated by men. I am trying to get my daughter into it too. She loves going to the gym, but that's about it right now. Josh
