I read this article (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/11/21/BAG8G9V89Q1.DTL) about the possible draining and reopening of Hetch Hetchy Valley. What do you think about this? Too good to be true? Just imagine the first ascent rush that this will spawn if it does happen. It says that it will take about 80 to 100 years for the walls to be cleaned natuarally, but i bet that the cracks would be cleaned just a bit quicker. Discuss

Your link above doesn't seem to work--at least it doesn't for me. Curt

Try this... http://www.sfgate.com/...1/21/BAG8G9V89Q1.DTL and if not you can just go to http://www.sfgate.com and then search for hetchy. Perhaps a pipe dream?? but perhaps not. Given that they estimate it will take 5 years to drain the resevoir, i think a whole new style of climbing could be debated on rc.com. Long dead is the esteemed "ground up approach" to be taken over by the top down approach. Just think you can tell your grandkids that your first ascent of pitch 18 on the mega classic grade VI was deep water soloed!! 8^)
