Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a location for a commercial shoot (it's for a Japanese energy drink). A rock face that has a slight overhang and a picturesque landscape in the background. Someplace warm in February, close to a big city, and easy access. Any ideas? Can be US, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, other places?

I've seen some phenomenal pix from you folks, but my main concerns are from a production standpoint: need to be able to get a camera crew there, easy approach, get to base and top, etc.

Thanks,
Steve

Red Rocks outside of Las Vegas, NV. Close approach, easy access to top and bottom of cliffs, your choice of overhanging stuff.

its semi warm-- in the 60's by then during the day. you can shoot on the east side of the crags in the morning, west side in the afternoon for all day sun.

Check out Queen Creek Canyon in AZ; it is scenic and very easy to navigate around many of the areas as well as only an hour from Phoenix. Not only that, you will help publicize an area that is endangered by mining. Good luck. M

Point Dume next to Zuma Beach near Malibu near Los Angeles. Easy access, nice background, and probably production friendly due to nearby film industry. There was a fashion shoot going on when I was there.

This isn't my proudest shot but you get the idea

Do we get a finders fee for this information?

Nothing overhanging at Pt. Dume. Beautiful ocean view but crowded too.
Red Rocks' Sunny and Steep could be good. Really good.
Joshua Tree has many nice options, but it's National Park, so no dragging the full flotilla of camera equipment around the desert. Easy access to base of many climbs. I've worked on three different still shot/catalog jobs there, and several closer to LA.
I have a day job but could be easily coerced into film job. Do you have budget for a location scout/climbing specialist?

Limited vision some of you have:

First I would recommend your company hire a location scout, but here are some ideas.

Phuket in Thailand: depending on what you do with the camera, you can have ocean, beach, or cliff has background. Local labor is cheap for moving things in and out, and local climbing talent is plentiful in January.

Youngshuo in China: Again, easy access with all the comfort the crew can handle. Very cheap local labor; Gorgeous location not completely overdone yet.

Okinawa, Japan: Cost is slightly higher then other locations, but the background would be spectacular.

I would agree with guangzhou on Phuket/Krabi, Thailand - numerous productions have used the location over the years. For something different you might consider the Blue Mtns. two hours due west of Sydney up around Katoomba (just above their wine country, very nice for clients) - that's my personal fav and recommendation:

Or hell, if you have budget, scout both... I'll be available in February and have worked on climbing related productions. Feel free to PM me...

Thailand's salty humid air is murder on camera gear. I'd beware, although it's beautiful. Also Access is by longboat ride. Everybody wants to keep their costs down, why go so far to shoot?

Peace

Considering that the shoot is for a Japanese company, Thailand is much closer than USA.

I agree that the Blue mountains would also be a great location.

If the shoot need to be base in the U.S. consider Malibu Creek State Park or the beach below. Both are very open to having camera crews work there. Local talent is extremely easy to find.
