lambone, are you planning on building your own wall or are you just asking? If you're building, I'm interested in the price ranges you find. PM me so we can exchange ideas. Alan

I am opening a climbing gym and lookingto have the wal built profesionaly. I have been quoted a range of $125k - 250k for 6,000 sq ft of wall. walls like Sport Rock that mimic real stone are cute and all, but they are rediculously expensive and have limited routesetting opportunities. They are best for shopping malls and amusement parks....we are looking for more straightforward plywood over concrete. Cool geometry and good construction is all we require.

I have heard good things about eldorado walls. I agree about the realistic looking walls. Our gym has a nice concrete like finish over it and it was built by some locals. Let me know if you want to takle the project and I can help any way I can. Check out www.ogdenclimbing.com to see what the wall looks like. Good luck. Owning a gym is a lot of fun. Lance

I must say that I am a little bias b/c I worked for Eldo Walls but I can tell you first hand that we not only built a good product and did our best to please the customer. While the real rock walls are cool, as a climber, I find that with all the features they can tend to make problems/routes to easy unless you call this off and that off etc. I like climbing outside but indoor climbing is indoor climbing and that is it. IF you want real rock go outside. The real rock features tend to be more attractive (and expensive) for non-climbers as it looks "real" and cool. But as a climber for training, i could care less what it looks like. I would recommend getting on indoor climbing.com and contacting gym owners about their experience with the different companies. You could call Tim, the owner of Summit Rock gym at www.summitrockgym.com. You can call me also send me an e-mail and we can chat if you like. I think eldo has a great product. Call Rich and talk to him. They are all at the trade show now though. Let me know if I can help. You can probably expect to spend b/t 30 and 34 dollars a square foot though, depending on many variables but that should get you started. You may have said but where and when are you thinking of doing this? Scott

Monolithic (spot gym) has by far the best texture and relief of any manufacturer I've climbed on (eldo, solid, entrepris)

out of all the walls ive been on, i like the eldo ones most (and the gym i go to has them, wich is sweet). i think that walls like EP's and nicros' are a bit funky, and inferior to eldo's. the eldorado ones are well built, nicely designed, and are somewhat basic yet interesting.

http://www.nicros.com Not exactly the budget way to go, but you're definitely getting quality. The gym I climb at has Nicros walls and I absolutely love them.

I am putting together a business plan now and I have to say that I am leaning towards Eldorado Walls just because of the service. The guy spent almost an hour on the phone with me and would have spent more, but I ran out of questions. He didn't know if he was getting anything out of it, which he may not. But he didn't care about making money. He definately showed he wanted to serve the customer (me) and if he's willing to do that before I pay 400K on a wall, I know it will continue after I pay 400K. By the way, they quoted me around 30-35 dollars a square foot if I'm in the 10,000 sq. foot range. The price was a little more if you only want about 6,000 sq. ft. I'd be glad to compare numbers and info with some of you who are doing research. PM me. Jeff

OSU just finished a Nicros wall in August, and it's already falling apart. It does get a whole lot of use, but still, it's no excuse. I wouldn't recomend Nicros, but i don't know anything about any other company.

In reply to: I am putting together a business plan now and I have to say that I am leaning towards Eldorado Walls just because of the service. Jeff Ditto, We just did their start-up consultation this last weekend in Boulder. Highly recomended...we felt it was well worth it even though we are past the planning stages, John gives lots of great advice and is just a super nice guy all around. Go for it! Their new Franklin holds kick ass too, we got to see the shop where they are made.
