My best advice to you would be to maybe look into starting up a website. The next thing I would do is if you have a local climbing gym and climbing shop in the area maybe drop off and post some flyers on their bulletin board. Just my 2¢

I'm stationed at 29 Palms, Ca. We have a climbing club here, it was created by word of mouth. Nomad Ventures in J.T. helped by passing the word to any military people stopped in there. We tried to get funds from MCCES which is the equivelent of AAFES, but they wanted legal contracts and waivers that if anyone was injured we wouldn't try to sue them. A pain in the A##. We are sort of funded by Nomad's everyone in the club gets 10% off climbing gear. There was an agreement between the club and them. We charged our menmbers $25 a year to obtain the membership. The money in the club was used to buy ropes. We have around 10-15 members. I'm not sure if this helps you at all, ,but this is how we did it.

I am stationed at Ft. Meade, MD (I am navy though) and have found that a website is a great way to get started. by the way are there any navy personnel in iceland or naval bases. I would love to go there. Erica

Just put up fliers anywhere you think climbers may be. Put a phone # on it that they can call so you can start getting names and arange a meeting. You don't need any gear for the club. It is nice to have some ropes but your a club not a guiding serves so most people will have all the gear they need.

Don't forget to think up a cool name for your club. Name it now before other people think they get an opinion too.

for legal & liability reasons, try to avoid charging dues or any such membership fees. if you're just looking for a group to hang with, keep it informal . . . post flyers, search the internet, etc.
