Hi...

I will be moving to South Africa for a period of 4-6 months starting mid-late March. I would absolutely love to be able to do some rock climbing down there.

I've only been climbing for about a season and a half, mostly at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin, a few times in other places. I've done mostly top-rope climbing, though I have done a few multi-pitch trad routes (only followed though, I haven't led). The hardest route I've ever accomplished is a 5.9 (19) at Devil's Lake, which is arguably sandbagged, and I generally do well in the 5.6-5.7 (14-16?) range. So, basically, compared to most of the people on this site, I'm a beginner. I don't have much gear - just the basic shoes, harness, helmet, belay device, a couple of slings and assorted biners.

I haven't climbed outdoors since late November and probably won't again before I leave for SA, having spent the last couple of months recovering from wrist tendonitis.

What are people's advice about how best to find a climbing partner(s) who would be willing to take someone of relatively low-level out climbing? I don't want to slow people down, but I'd really love to be shown all the great sites in the Cape Town area. I will be working in Observatory, so I will definitely check out City Rock gym.

Thanks for any info any of you could send my way...

cheers

PS. I'm also up for any general outdoor activities. Looks like there is lots of great hiking out there as well.
